  1. I'm so sorry for your loss. But I wanted to let you know that my dog does catch some things with her paws -- basketballs when she plays with my nephews and sometimes the soccer ball if another dog is close by. But she catches Frisbees and tennis balls in her mouth. Go figure...
  2. Happy Birthday, Ouzo! What a CUTIE!!
  3. Since you live in Waterloo -- what about Napolean?
  4. Thank goodness Casey loves the brush. She's not overly fond of the undercoat rake, but sits still for it. I want to try the "furminator," which I read about one of the other boards. Has anyone used it? I'm also on a constant search for the world's best vacuum cleaner. Just keep reminding myself I'd rather have the dog hair than not have dogs!
  5. No, she's only five and in great health. It just seemed odd to me. In the past, I thought she had the full coat in winter and the heavy shed in the summer -- but maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. If yours is doing it now, too, I won't worry! Thanks!
  6. I don't want to make light of a serious problem, but my brother refers to it as "OCBC" behavior. I'm sure everyone on this site can appreciate that to some degree!
  7. Does anyone know why my Casey (a rough-coat)would have a very full, think coat in summer and then blow her coat just as cold weather hits? She's got a beautiful coat and is healthy, but seems to have gotten off cycle somehow. I read somewhere else that most borders blow their coats in spring and fall, but this timing doesn't make sense to me. The poor dog was miserably hot all summer with a full, thick undercoat and now it's gone for fall/winter. If it makes a difference, she spends most days outside, but comes in and out and sleeps indoors.
  8. Thanks, Dog Doc. I believe these lumps are IN the skin and my vet says the couple she aspirated definitely were benign. However, she seems to want to remove all four at once and have more pathology done on them - though she's says there's no rush to do the surgery. My dog Casey is a 2-year-old female who's healthy in every other way. She hasn't had any hair loss, skin change, etc. In fact, I don't think she notices them except when I obsess with finding out what they are. They did grow rather quickly, but that's the only sign of badness.
  9. Has anyone ever seen a BC develop lumps under the skin that don't appear to be dangerous, but are persistent? My dog now has four that are clustered and have grown pretty quickly. My vet says they aren't malignant, but aren't like anything she's ever seen either. They apparently are consistent with what would happen if the dog reacted sensitively to an injection, but they are in a location where there's never been an injection. I've had other breeds that developed "fatty tumors," but this apparently is different. My previous borders didn't have them. Thanks for any info.
