  1. I've read some posts mentioning about giving pumpkin, chicken and rice when dogs have diarrhea. I fed my puppies all these the past four days. This vet said never to feed pumpkin when dogs have a run because it would make it worse! He said to give some cheese instead. It seemed like the pumpkin (or maybe it was the rice/chicken and my TLC!) worked. What is the truth?
  2. I know... my lab would just swallow the last big piece if the BC puppy tries to steal it from him. But then, what do you give them to chew on?
  3. my 8 weeks and 5 months lab love rawhide especially the ones with flavors just like most dogs. I was wondering what they are really made of and if they are okay for them to eat so much? -- one or two a day! But thanks to them, our furnitures are still in original shapes
  4. Jasmine had a run for a couple days with my other lab pup. I fasted them for a day and then fed them rice and some chicken with a bit of pumpkin for two days. she hasn't gone bathroom for two days (I don't know if she does go while I am out but I have been watching at all times when I am home) I would think it's normal not to go a little while after diarrhea but starting to worry now. Her tummy is getting big. Anything I can give her to fix at home? She is also on potty training and I just got her a kennel that's connected to outside but she wouldn't use it unless I go with her--this might be giving her some stress?
  5. Have you heard of any other breeds do that? or just BCs and some other smarter breeds tend to do? --I am hoping maybe we can teach our lab pup too who is 5 months old...
  6. When you train them with bells, do you ring it when you take them outside? or would you ring it while they are taking care of business? I have it hanging by the door and whenever I take her out, I ring a couple of times so she would hopefully pick up on it. Sometimes, she would just try to play with it. -- and cats
  7. How did you teach your dogs to leave cat's food alone while you are gone?!
  8. From what I heard, read and told, I understand that you are supposed to punish physically as little as possible but praise them when they do right. I've been following that past one and half weeks with my new 8 week old BC puppy. However, there are a few things that I think I need to punish her for such as, eating cats' poo and biting my ankles when I run infront of her. I don't want her to have bad personalities or attitude just because I punish her. Besides telling her "NO" firmly and ignoring her for a while after she misbehaved, is there any way you can train them without being cruel? I already use "NO" and "ignore" tricks when she does small things but need different levels of punishments when she does something really bad. Thank you.
  9. Thank you Bill. When she does wrong; such as bite my ankles when I play succer with her, try to eat cats' poo, tease cats; I would tell her "NO" but then she gives me this sad face. Someone told me that BCs don't like being told off and they can get stubborn if they don't get their ways. I have been trying to praise her as much as possible when she does right, but hate (just as everyone would) telling her "NO" especially when she is having a good time... I know I have to...
  10. I just got my 8 weeks old BC puppy last sunday. Since the guy said the pup had her first set of shots at 6 weeks, I asked for the paper from their vet, he said he'd like to keep it to himself. He is sellling puppies of his breeder friend so he might not have it but kind of questioned me. 3 months ago, my co-workers tipped in money and surprised me with a 3 months old lab on my last day at the job -- which actually really upsetted me because I don't believe in buying animals as gift but of course I kept him --they said the breeder also didn't want to give them paper for his first set of shots. I ended up giving three sets to my lab as if he didn't get the first set from the breeder in case they weren't telling the truth. Would you suggest doing the same with my BC puppy? If it's not harmful to give an extra set, I'd think it's safer to do that. Any suggestions?
  11. My 7.5 weeks to be exact is full of energy and always trying to understand what I am saying (tilting her heads for every word I say!) Some trainers I've contacted suggested I'd wait till she is 6 months old to get proper trainings. Until she is ready for those, are there anything I can teach her, show her besides "sit" "down" "No"? As I mentioned in my last post, I am planning on buying a whistle. Thank you,
  12. I read some of your posts about whistles (not siclent) for different tons. I looked up different petstore website but I couldn't find anything like it. I also went to Kent Kuykendall's CD site but no whistle. I might but the CD but i would need a whistle first! (By the way, I live near Houston, Texas) Is there a site I can go to buy one online?? any suggestions on which brand?
  13. Thanks for all your replies. I was also amazed about some BCs ringing bells! When she is a bit older, maybe I will try that too. Right now, I am just going to watch her as much as possible. Thanks
  14. I just got my first BC pup (7.5 weeks) four days ago. I have four cats, one lab pup who is already house trained (took him one week). So we already have a pet door that's leading to back yard. My new BC, Jasmine would go out and take care business only if I am outside. Otherwise, she would go elsewhere. I tell her "NO" right after she does and take her outside. I try to catch her sniffing around and circling around before she does it but she does it so quick, it's always too late. How long does it usually take for BC puppies? My lab was extreamely obedient and hated being told off. But Jasmine already has a little attitude. Any suggestions?
