  1. Hi...are there any agility clubs/classes in Vermont(Woodstock area)? I live on the New Hampshire/Vermont border. Also...where can I buy agility equipment?
  2. I'm more confused now than before! In order to do first level agility one must complete level one obedience...hence the need for teaching the heel. Food is very much apart of the training method. You put leash around your waist and treat in left hand in front of his nose. It works fine...for awhile...I know the choke is placed properly on the neck. It could be he's going through the teen years...he's brilliant with all other exercizes...thanks for the input all!
  3. I have been "training" him from the first day he became part of the family. He has been in obedience class for 5 weeks. When he pulls ahead of me he is immediately corrected. He just doesn't seem to mind it. A snap of the lead gets his attention but he continues to pay no attention...I worry that his neck will become sore! Ironically he he is perfect with his sit and down stays, as well as other exercizes. Thanks for the advise.
  4. My 7 month old BC does not heel well on lead. I'm using a gentle nylon choke chain training collar reccomended by my trainer. He still pulls...any ideas of what other collars would work better? Mine is placed just behind the ears and is short enough for the quick correction as not to hit him in the windpipe.
  5. Thanks everyone...my BC Spinner is doing just fine as a "pet". All the attention he gets plus playing frisbee seems to keep him contented. He is still trying to figure out what the horses are all about...and after being chased by our donkey he has gained new respect! I hope with constant attention he will become a well adjusted happy fellow!
  6. I went to the Scotland festival in Quechee VT on Sat. I was a little put off when the announcer said that BC's do not make good pets unless you happen to have a herd of sheep in the backyard. What's with this? Any dog needs lots of excercize, it would be unfair to any breed not to spend time playing with it. Does everyone that owns a BC train them to herd...what about agility? I get the feeling that the herding people don't have much time for the pet owner/agility people. Oh well....
  7. does anyone have any tips on introducing a BC puppy to horses? I don't want him to chase them and get hurt. Is it possible for them to coexsist? My horses are quite used to dogs and are not bothered by them. I'm not sure how they will react to a nipping situation however. Can they be trained to stay away from them?
  8. I have a 10 week old male bc. When should I start training him to do basic commands? We are working on sit,off and no at the present. When can I start training with the choke collar? I am using Brian Kilcommons book-any comments?
