  1. A very long time ago I took my first dog to a doggie daycare. It was pretty much when the idea first caught on in our area. It was a wonderful facility run by a very diligent skilled woman with very good assistants. The large room was divided into four areas so they could separate dogs as needed. Also the whole room was lined with crates so when a dog was ready for a break there was a spot to rest. Oh how I adored the owner. I liked her so much that she even took my dog for a few days when I had to go out of town (I pretty much never leave my dogs). It really was a top notch facility. But life changed and we moved. And then there was no need for doggie day care. But out of curiosity I visited a few here and there. Boy, I really got spoiled with that first one. Some of them professed to be cage free and were so proud of it! I asked one owner what if a dog needs a break from the others? They thought there was a problem with the dog if it needed a break! Ugh
  2. Hoping for a happy new free life for Chance.
  3. I totally understand the feeling. When I got bit by the neighbors' dog this summer I totally cried when they put him down. It had to be done, the dog just could not be trusted. But still it was very sad.
  4. Also, Villa Lobos does not save every dog they rescue. They have and will have aggressive dogs euthanized. They don't show you that part on the TV show
  5. Sorry, but I don't think a shelter like Villa Lobos filled with cages upon cages of dogs is a good place for a dog aggressive dog. Like others have said also, there are just too many dogs out there with no issues that need help. I think it is misplaced to continue to use resources on dogs that bite.
  6. I in now way got the sense that anyone is turning this into a "pit" issue. It is a multiple bite issue.
  7. I don't understand why it will take them a week to remove the dog. That dog should be immediately removed. Taken to animal control for the standard quarantine procedure. And then humanely put down. There should be no grey area in a case like this. Unbelievable.
  8. I third it. I'm sure it happens regularly. And there is sure to be a future time where a dog fight ensues.

OMG, this was quite a blow to read. My heart is breaking for you.
  10. I have been unable to get Soloxine. Apparently there had been a recall on it. I had to get a generic product. It worked just as good.
  11. Why are you opposed to levothyroxine? My old gal has been on it since she was five and she is about to turn 15. No issues at all and it works great for her.
  12. My brother has started raising goats on his small farm. He desperately needs a farm vet. He tried calling one and could not get a return call. I realize large animal vets for sheep and goats are becoming harder and harder to find. But I would appreciate any help if anyone has any contacts! He lives in Newnan Georgia, which is south west of Atlanta. Feel free to contact me privately if you are not comfortable posting it here. Thank you so much!
  13. We are doing the pepcid at night. It is working! Forgot it the other night and she was picky in the morning. Yes, I do plan to check kidney values every 6 months.
  14. You say he is bored. What makes you think that? Perhaps he is perfectly content.
  15. My first dog had THREE on each of her back feet. They were floppy and not attached to the bone. We had them removed. She was a crazy wild child pup and it was just a matter of time before she caught them on something. The only trouble we had was she was ingenious at getting around her "cone of shame", licked the incisions too much, and we had to have some restitching. Got an even bigger cone then. I would have them removed. Just my opinion.
  16. Thanks Julie, I appreciate the info. She ate well again this morning. One day at a time!
  17. I have to monitor her water intake closely because the heart meds can affect the kidneys. So far water intake is normal. Last night she was begging for pizza crust, one of her naughty favorites. This warms my heart! This morning I got up very early and offered her some rice which she happily ate. Then I went back to bed until she woke me up wanting real breakfast. I cooked ground pork, well drained. Mixed it with more rice. Then I remembered I have digestive enzymes from when I used to feed raw with veggie mush. So I mixed some digestive enzymes in. And also some healthy powder that I make. She ate it all no problem. Yay! Another breakfast down. I'll be off for the pepcid today. Will give that to her at night. I think I will keep adding the digestive enzymes too now that I remembered about them. As long as her kidneys hold out I can keep giving her lots of protein.
  18. I'll ask about the mirtazapine if the pepcid does not help. I'll also have to make sure it is ok with her other four meds.
  19. This is a dog who literally lives to eat. Her whole life has always revolved around food. I've always said if she doesn't want to eat then I know it is time. I'm encouraged because she still wants to eat. She still has a good quality of life. She does mostly sleep. And rarely greets me at the door anymore. But wants to get out for a bit in the morning. I do cherish every day. Whatever we have left together
  20. I would think she would have vomitting or diarrhea or some other symtoms. Also she is fine for dinner. I am not exactly sure what my vet tested for but it was an extensive blood panel. She emailed me the Pepcid dose. We'll start that tomorrow.
