  1. Well I thank you for all the replies everyone. I am not inclined to allow the staring even though he isn't chasing. I find that obsessiveness not good to encourage or allow in Luke. Otherwise I think it might work. Thanks again, Caroline
  2. Hi Folks, Well we have two border collies. Luke is 4 and Peg is 2. They both work stock. Luke is obsessed with squirrels, bunnies etc. I have told him to leave the chickens alone and he does now. He was really obsessed with staring at my mother-in-law's aged cat. Fast forward now to my 7 year old daughter really wanting a cat. Do you think, because I corrected him to leave the chickens and it worked, that I can correct him out of pestering the cat? He would be more tempted with the cat as the cat would be inside with us sometimes. Any ideas, comments, suggestions? Thanks, Caroline
  3. I heard that the Kelpie event is being held at Jan Wesen's in Bow Washington. About 1 hr south of the Canadian border along Interstate 5. An acquaintance mentioned it to me, I don't know for sure. There is nothing on Jan's website about it currently. Maybe if you are interested, you can email her. http://www.janwesen.com/ Caroline
  4. Thank you all for understanding. The shelter is going to talk to the person who owns this dog. If the dog is picked up again, she will not be released to the owner and I will be called. If I or several of my friends in the neighborhood see the dog, we are taking her to the shelter. Let us all hug our beloved 4 legged friends. Caroline
  5. Hi Everyone, I am frustrated tonight. I had a friend call me yesterday morning and say she had a caught a BC young female on the busy road near our house. She had an elderly blind dog in her car that was a curmudgeon so she asked me if I could meet her and hold the dog for a day or so. I said sure and went and picked the dog up. What a sweetie. She had a tag from the local shelter. My friend had called them and told me they said that if they pick that dog up one more time, she will not be returned to the owner due to the numerous pick ups already. This dog was chasing cars on the busy road. Small border collie mix, about 25-30 pounds. She had mange around one eye. I thought her a pup but was told she is just over a year. Long story short, my friend wanted to keep her but felt we should call the shelter. I did that this morning. The shelter gave my number to the owner who promptly called me. I asked if her dog was in heat, (she acted like it) she said maybe. I said, why isn't she spayed? Is she a pup? No , we want to breed her to a purebred border collie. We have a list of 5 people that want her pups. *SCREAM* I am so frustrated. I talked to her, she came to my house, she said "well you have three border collies" in a snotty voice. I said they are all spayed and neutered. Please don't breed your dog. Told her a few reasons why. She promptly said thanks for getting my dog and left. My kids and I have been upset about this for part of today. I am venting here. Thank you for listening. Caroline and Charlie and Luke and Peg. I have spayed Peg, who is turning into a fine prospect and might have thrown good pups, because I know I don't want that responsibility.

  7. Yes it is a mud pit lots of places up here this time of year isn't it? Oh those sheep are too large for me to be comfortable handling. I have been training on St. Croix and St. Croix crosses and am considering Katahdins for home. I always wanted Black Welsh Mountain Sheep after seeing them in Scotland but they are a bit pricey and some folks say a bit hard to work. Yes after March perhaps we can drive out to visit you! Caroline
  8. Hi there, I think if Nick is already working sheep so much, it won't hurt to do some agility. I wouldn't do much of anything with my dog before I got on with the sheep work, but after that, I think it depends on the dog and his/her drive and personality. Many border collies can do all sorts of things along with working sheep well. Of course I had an agility dog first and then started him, not a lot of instinct and he looked at me too much because I had trained that in agility. The second two dogs I didn't do anything first before working sheep. Just my opinion! I want to come over to the islands and see your place. Do you ever have sheep for sale? Caroline in Bellingham
  9. Welcome Ben, We are in Bellingham! I have 3 border collies and work sheep weekly. Glad to have you on board! Caroline Charlie Luke Peg
  10. Hi Folks, I am not a cat person but am friends with a cat person. One cat can make the room evacuate when he uses the litter. Does anyone know if those spray on odor removers work, sprayed on food, one is mainly Mountain Yucca, and can help with the poop odor? I am trying to help my friend find a solution to this wonderful cat's stinky problem. Thanks, Caroline
  11. Thank you very much. It was mentioned as not effective in the other thread. I got concerned although my dog definitely is looking healthier already. Thanks alot. Caroline
  12. Hi there, After reading the OTC wormer discussion, I have a few questions. I had a diagnosis on my young female, Peg, of whipworm. She was prescribed panacur, three days in a row, one week later, and three weeks after that (which is next Monday). Does panacur cover whipworm? Caroline Thanks!
  13. Hi there, Don't give up yet on a rescue dog. I tried meeting several then found the perfect one to not dominant my older cranky dog. It takes time for adjustment too. There are many dogs out there that might work out. This one might also given more opportunities. Please don't give up after one shot. Thanks, Caroline
  14. Thank you for the link! I appreciate it and am glad to hear the answer. Caroline
  15. Well I appreciate the responses, Rebecca and Kim, I guess we don't know for sure if he is breeding or not. Of course the bond is incredible, but especially if this is PRA, it is a shame to breed. Caroline
