  1. So their shared momma is Nell. Who is your Celt's sire? Can't wait to see who's smooth and who's a med. Coat. I have 2 picked out, both dark face tri's but I want smooth so not sure yet. we have 4 tri females 2 blk and white and 1 very smooth blk with only a bit of white male. an acquaintance of mine that lives kinda close bred her dam to Cap and got 8 boys and only 1 girl! Funny that it goes like that.
  2. Alisdair's Alba Cap. Most of them have his tri markings. Faye thinks 7 is way to many. We have a deal. If they're awake and whiney she has to go in the box. If they are sleeping she can come out. now she's asking to work....not yet!
  3. Thanks. Yes a wonderful planned breeding that has come together with any issues as of yet! I am feeling so blessed!
  4. I'm using Seresto collar on my LGD. She must lay in tick beds as every night I'm still picking tons of ticks off her. Some dead some not. I'm going to try Nexguard. But darn that collar was expensive for it not to work! I use preventic collars on my border collies, with fine results. and Comfortis for fleas but only as needed. Yes Julie I've often wondered if the spot ons would work for us! Just haven't tried it yet! lol OMT, I've noticed that chiggers are out in force. Sometimes I see a dog itching at nothing. Me too. I think it's chigger bites.
  5. It is with great pleasure that I get to introduce Faye's new pups. They are a week and a day old. Ms Faye had 6 wee baby girls and 1 bruiser boy! They are all doing wonderful! For your viewing pleasure!
  6. I think cuddly is a hit or miss. I have 3 right now. 1 I have to seek out to pet. On occasion he seeks us out but usually not. The other 2 are very good cuddliers. Dew won't sleep with me but she cuddles before slew sleep and wakes me every morning with lovies. Faye is my cuddle bug. Can't get to close. Sleeps with me and seeks me out all the time. I have had lots of working bcs. No akc or sport bred. They all have great relax buttons and I think I have encouraged the lovie ones to be that way. I like to cuddle. But I also like my down time without hurting anyone's feelings. Works for us. good luck on your border collie quest!
  7. Glad it healed so quickly! Good luck at your trial!
  8. She looks to be growing right before our eyes. Carring such a huge shell of fear tends to make them small. One piece at a time peeled off. thank you for your kindness. she is growing stronger every minute.
  9. Just had my guard dog go through the exact type spilt or broken nail. It was split down to the quick and the quick was hanging out just like your pic. Only thing I can add was as it healed I had to keep it trimmed real short. It was tender and when that nail would grow out a bit it would put pressure on the nail bed. She'd limp till I'd trim it short enough that it wasn't hitting the ground when she walked. Took a couple of 3 weeks till I'd say she was all good. But I didn't do anything other than trim it all the time. No boots or bandages. I knew she's chew them off.
  10. So sorry you are both suffering so. the drugs your are trying will quickly help or not. Give him a chance to see. my mick had 2 TBDs that went chronic before we could get a proper diag. He at one point couldn't walk. This was under the age of 2. He got over them and took a long time to get better but he's 13 and still chasing the squirrels and he thinks he's my best barn chore dog out there. I let him do as he pleases. Hugs to both of you and hang on for a bit longer. He might surprise you.
  11. I saw some good things. But mainly I saw a young pup that isn't ready for training pressure yet. I'd take her maybe once a month to see how she is maturing and you'll see a marked difference when she is mature enough to take training pressure plus she will be used to sheep a tiny bit. Good luck and enjoy the journey
  12. I know you think crate is not a good thing but for a dog like this it can be the difference between hiding in a back bedroom and staying out where they can at least see life going by. I don't crate my dogs either. Except one has a hidey hole (a soft sided crate that is never shut up) by our bed that he can't sleep without and I gave Faye back her crate because she had taken up chewing strange items that might hurt her. She and dew can fight over said crate and if given her choice of crate or no crate when napping soundly she'll pick the crate everytime. They do not see it as a cage they see it as a den.
  13. funny topic! our worst issues are sound sensitivity, and barkerMsBarkerson Dew just can't shut her trap. She isn't a barker at "things" she barks at life because it's either good or bad but she barks. It's actually a line trait! Faye is nervous and if not watched diligently could nip (she's 3, it's never happened) mick used to be dog aggressive but he's to old to give a rats patoot any more. Those are the things I wish were different but not enough to train them. I love them, faults and all. They just wouldn't be them without the bad and good. I say that bout my dh all the time! The good....we are a family! And they all work sheep.
  14. I didn't read all the responses but I wanted to add what worked for us. My pup had never been in a house or around people. She was only 4 months old but past the point of early socialization. We are pretty matter of fact in my family. I use treats for some stuff but not all the time. Potty training but not coming in the house. I kept a light weight long line at the door. She was hooked up every time we went out. Coming in wasn't an option. But what gave her most comfort was her crate. We have a big wire crate that I keep right in the middle of the house, we keep all but the door side covered. She spent most of her time in her hidey hole just watching life in the house. Wasn't but a few months and she was out of the crate enjoying her new exciting family life. She will never be the social butterfly some dogs are, but she is comfortable. It is very overwhelming for some dogs to do minor life things. Coming in is something you just have to do. I never punished just never rewarded for it either. We had so many things to get over she'd of been as huge as a house had I used treats for everything. Matter of fact, no reaction is what worked for us. good luck, patience and time
  15. We dont' have a trail side buffet we have chicken poo casserole! Chicken poop everywhere! My dogs think it is appetizers! I grow my own kefir. I feed it to the dogs at least once a week if not more. They seem to do very well with it. So do I!
  16. Thanks guys, I will pass this on to her. Thanks Ruth and Karen
  17. I hate to admit that Dew is always working the chickens. Alone or supervised. I am lazy, it affects nothing so I let her go. She pushes them here and there or just lays in the middle of them. They dont seem to care either. She can also move them with purpose when I ask. It is a strange relationship she has with them. Would never touch one unless i asked. The other dogs were taught not to work them and they dont. Mick doesnt see chickens but he sees guineas. He won't work them... way beneath his dignity Dew would rather work chickens or ducks over sheep. Geeze that's kinda hard to admit but she's gettin old and I don't care. She works anything I ask so we're happy. Training was more about persistence when I'm not looking for the birds and my dogs.
  18. This young pup is testing positive then negative then positive again. Her other dogs will sometimes test positive but no symptoms, but not all of them or even the same ones. She has him separated now to try and keep any re infestations from contact of other dogs or contaminates. I will forward all the ideas. He was tested for the b-12 malabsorbsion but that wasn't it. Still getting b-12 as it seemed to help. 5 weeka of met. Is not normal treatment journey? Do you think c.perfinges could be the compromising issue causing him to keep the gairdia infection going? she has done anything and everything she can think of. They are at a speciality vet now. I hope something might help that has been suggested. I think he's only about 8 months old. Very skinny
  19. I have a friend with a young pup suffering from the same. They aren't finding the answer and they have used liquid panacure and anything else they can think of. They are getting ready to do a endoscopy on the poor pup. If you find more information out or you find liquid p. helps please update. I'm wondering if there is a new strain out there (if that is possible) that isn't responding to treatmeant. Although the dog gets better then worse.

    The Boy

I've lost a few dogs over the years. Your heart dogs seem to hang around for a bit after they cross the bridge. I think they're making sure we're ok. The hole in your heart will fill in with wonderful memories over time. Till then, know we share your pain. It is never easy. So sorry for your loss.
  21. I love the "hand" feeding part. I did that for one of my old girls. I think she just loved me fussing over her. Enjoy your time. She and you both are very lucky to have each other.
  22. Nice job! Amazing, a sheep'a will to live!
  23. I'm kinda with Smalahundur. I think about how much money is spent on 1 dog and how much that would of done for lots of dogs. But I'm happy for that dog.
  24. Liz did you or do you find vectra3d works for ticks? Jesse only weighs about 110 and I made sure to put it on well. It didnt touch the ticks or as dh says maybe it did and she'd of had even more, though I cant imagine that.
