  1. I have and she told me to her it looks like he just over worked it. I will might have to drive farther out of town to find a different vet but it will be worth it if they can look into more. He walks fine any time before playing, he stretched a lot compaired to my chuhuahua but assume its just him. He trips with his front legs once in a while it looks equivalent to us tripping on our own feet. Thank you for your help!
  2. My border collie/ Australian shepherd mix has had front legs that shake since he was 4 months old for no reason. We prevented him from jumping for a long time he even learned to walk up on the couch or we would lift him Intel he reached 8 months old then we could only slow him down. We had vet look at him when a pup over it and they just said well he is not doing it now and no painful areas he is fine. He started his jumping big time at 11 months. For anything, he would even toss toys in the air and jump to catch them. He will not play tug a war or anything else, he will squeak a toy but ends up throwing that one. Now though if he is very active more then 10 minutes his legs shake again or if he jumps for toys, bubbles, frisbees as well sometimes he jumps taller then me and i am 5 foot 4. His back is not strait all the way and he looks like its rounded up near the rump just behind middle back. We have pointed it all out to our vet since we started to see these things and they said he was fine. No pictures to look or anything. Is this normal and if so why does his front legs shake when active. Also when he plays for longer then 15 minutes he will lay down to cool off but when he stands it looks like the front legs will get up fine but it looks like he pulls his back end up instead of just standing. Any info would help thank you!
  3. Our Alfred was really good at crate training since he was 2 months old he liked to go in at bed time. When we leave to go somewhere he is a little skeptical about going in but he still does. We keep his favorite blanket in there. Now that he is older we just leave the door open. When we say bed time he goes on our bed for 15 minutes then off and into his crate, same with we are going bye bye and shower time. His is bath time and he knows the difference. He will stay in the crate Intel he gets thirsty but comes right back or intel we walk away or call him. When he does not feel good he goes in there as well. He did at first have a few nights where we heard him walking around like he was looking for a spot to potty and we said his name and got up to let him out. It is hard when we leave even though he has not done it for short time away we don't trust him yet to not find a spot if we are gone longer then an hour. We also bring home a treat or new toy with us though as incuragement to be good when we get home and say look you were a good boy. He is not good when company comes over however so we still have to shut his door intel he calms down. It's nice he has what we call his safe place and he thinks so to. When In the crate no one is aloud to bug him or reach In to get him. Other animals is not aloud to do this either.
  4. Thank you you are right it was to fast. I stepped it back to where i just placed it on the ground with it off and let him and my chuhuahua come and sniff it. When he started to walk over it without even looking at it i picked it up and he actually did not care what i did with it when it was off. I turned it on and placed it on the ground and he ran away then slowly started to come up and sniff it. I gave him a treat and said good boy. I did this now hes comfortable without a treat with me even putting it on his foot but when it starts to take care of the nail he acts like its causing pressure or something he does not run away he just wants his foot back. I will keep working with him. At least hes not running away. One toe at a time
  5. I was raised with training pups different then some people so im glad i found this site to help me with my first border collie who is totally different then the chihuahuas, papillons, dash hounds, cocker spaniels and poodles. He learns close to the way my chihuahua does when it comes to tricks but grooming has been different. I say lets get pretty and he will brush his teath without problems but thats were it ends everything else has been no im scared. Even water for baths. I don't mind doing all my self but before it gets to were it can cause them problems like really long nails i will take to groomers. I also trained a lab and she was good but when older loved her soak at the groomers bath because it helped her arthritis intel the groomer cut a chunk of skin off hind quarters. After that i try not to take any. I tried rotary tool last night i turned it on a ways away and he came over to look at it. As long as i kept it still he was good and kept trying to grab it or lick it. When moved down to foot he was im out of here. The treat method helped to were i got him to come over and allow for tool to be moved down to feet just can't grab them yet. I will keep trying. Thank you for help everyone!
  6. Thank you both for your replys! I will not make as big of fuss about if i do it again. Also i got a Rotary tool for Christmas and as soon as it turn on he runs away and i can't get him. I have a little chuhuahua that he copys after most the time so i showed him she uses it fine and still nothing. I did not have treats though because i tell them if they get pretty for me they get treat after so i will try treat during next time. I finally went and got my hand file for my nails and he sat there and handed me his foot! He trys to chew on it when i use it a little but let me work on one nail. It just will take to long to do all of them. I will try the treat method tonight and see if it works!
  7. My border collie is 8 months old. He has long fur between toes and back heels to where when he goes outside he comes in with clumps of mud on his feet. He was ok with the scissors i was just trying to trim the top part not the bottom part of the pads and he was doing really good Intel my husband walked up and sat down behind him and said his name in a middle of a cut and he bent his paw up and it gave him a slight cut. One little drop of blood but there is a cut on the bottom of the paw now. Its not big but its there. Anyways i stopped and gave him plenty of love and treats to say i was sorry. My husband says hes fine since hes not limping, whining or walking like it hurts and no blood just that drop but i want to make sure it does not get infected and he truly is not hurting and not saying anything. Any suggestions on what to do? Also i tried to trim his nails months ago and he just will not stay still and hates it. He starts to pant bad when trying to do it like under stress. We got him from a pup and has never had any of this done to him before so i know its not troma. Any ideas on both? I dont want to take him to a specialist afraid they will really traumatize him either. I just want him happy and healthy. Grr never had a pup so against these things. Hes a good boy also he kicks at you with his hind paws when trying to trim nails another reason i stopped and won't try again.
  8. We have a new pup that is mostly border collie but also has alstrelian shepherd mix. He is right now 8 weeks old and i want to get a head of the game. We are leaving him only crated at bed time but he crys so we pull him out and sit with him all night long. We are already starting to train to sit but its hard to get his attention. I think its because he's still a pup i hope. He is not nice to my other dog that is older. He charges her and rams his nose into her that throws her off balance. We have tried many things to stop this but he only stops for a few then back at it and shes so mellow she just lays down and shows belly after yelping because he knocked her over. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated to get him well adjusted now while he is still young and not able to really hurt other dog. Also we take him out at least three times a day and run with him or he will chase sticks\balls ect. For at least 30 min. Each time but he will get tired and just lay down but as soon as we bring him back in he is whining and back at it. Total i think right now he sleeps about maybe 5 to 6 hours a day if lucky and not strait through its an hour at a time. So if i can get help with that to it would be great. Thanknyou
