Hello, yes he is on his lead when this happens, usually it begins with both dogs eager to sniff each other, then it seems to explode in a split second. I understand that makes it my fault in a way but with it only happening once in every 50-100 dogs its easy to assume he will be ok. On this occasion the other dog was off his lead and his ball was rolling down a hill towards our dog. The lab came into his space and it kicked off pretty quickly. On other occasions though, specifically in puppy class, it happened weekly with the same dog, a small cockapoo that was always just sat minding his own business, albeit fairly close.

He’s snapping quite viciously and trying to almost pin them down by the neck or something but to be honest at the very first snap he’s yanked away so we never get to see how it unfolds. He’s never drawn blood though and weirdly sometimes his tail is wagging, but no confusion he is definitely being aggressive despite the tail going.

We have a 1 year old BC who is a great house dog, superb with kids, neighbours and even postmen. He is very jumpy but never opens his mouth to anyone and just loves attention... We have noticed with most other dogs he kind of squats down like a bitch would when urinating, it is his way of submitting and within a few seconds he is on his back followed by back up playing with them and everything is fine. I’d say this is with 95% of dogs we come across. We first noticed a problem at puppy classes with a younger dog. If they enter his space his personality flips, his teeth come out and he snaps! It happened today in our local park with a lovely fox red Lab and it’s so embarrassing! It’s demoralising as within 15 seconds of leaving his tail is going and he’s happy and friendly again. Really confused as to what we can do as we can’t train him for a situation that we can’t replicate at home. Any ideas as this really does seem to be with the occasional younger dog (even Alsatians twice the size but younger)
