Irish Collie's Achievements

  1. My 10 year old alway lays on the same side and a pressure point on the rear ankle has lost it's hair and weeps a bit of blood. We bath it a few times a day. The dog is not limping at all and she does not even lick or wash it. Otherwise a very clean dog that washes everywhere else. We have bought her new softer beds today to stop the affected area rubbing on carpet pile. If I took her to my vets, they would want to sedate her, X-rays etc just to keep the shareholders happy. Is this common in an older BC. Thank you.
  2. Thanks for replies. The VET will be my first port of call.
  3. I rescued Jess over 5 years ago and is probably about 9 years old now. She did agility for a couple of years till Covid struck the UK. She has started to struggle to get up stairs or get off of the floor sometimes. She has been on Desmopressin Acetate for a couple of years which has worked well on her excessive drinking problem. Her problem appears to be the back legs only at this stage. She walks fine and can jog with me for a few hundred yards. Is there any supplements I can give her or other suggestions to prolong her life. Thank you.
  4. My 6 year old Jessie has the most awful breath normally in the morning. She gets on our bed at 7.30 every morning and breathes in our faces. We don't mind her being an alarm clock but all I can smell is putrid dog food on her breath and it is very strong. She is otherwise quite healthy and happy. She does pick up some leaf mould in the woods. What can we do to help. Thank you.
  5. I tend to think it is noise at this stage. This morning she was bouncing with excitement by the front door when I picked her lead up. As soon as I opened the front door it all changed and she would not budge. I put her in the car and drove about 4 miles and walked her along a new path, she was fine ? Thanks for reply.
  6. My Jess has become frightened to go out for a walk on the lead ( only sometimes ). We leave the house ok walk a 100 yards or so then just stops and looks at me. She is only about 6 years old and we have had her about three years. We rescued her and from my experience she has not been mistreated at all. We have been walking for miles since we had her and had no issues. Some days she is absolutely fine and we covered a few miles this morning. This is just a random walking problem. She been on Desmopressin since March for Diabetes and seems very healthy. In doors she is fine and active. Typical dog, don't like fireworks or shotguns; we live in the country where guns are used.
  7. Many thanks for replies. Will look into it.
  8. My Jess is about 5 years old. Seems healthy and fit and eats well. He breath of late is on par with her back-side, absolutely stinks. She has been on the same food for a few years, but this problem has just developed recently. She is on Desmopressin for her water works.
  9. Can he see ok, does he walk into things. I have seen a BC doing agility wearing glasses and I am not kidding. Keep us posted.
  10. I got my first BC from a from Farmer Bostock in Thirsk, Yorkshire in 1988. Rosie was one of an unwanted litter, her mum was in the James Herriot Series. Brilliant dog, never owned a lead and could walk her any where. Died of cancer the day the Twin Towers came down. My second was an unwanted farmers litter in Wales, Meg turned out to be a Welsh Collie. Cracking small bitch. Got thyroid at 8 years old and lived till she was 15. Jess ( current ) was about 3 years old, rescued her. She loves woman and children and no sign of PTSD. Taught her agility and developed diabetes recently, the drugs work fine. Great dog. Please rescue. They are not all sick dogs, honest. Regards
  11. Quite a few come in from other countries, mine came from Ireland all the way to the East Coast of England. If you walk along the seafront, every other dog is a Pug.
  12. I have had three Collies, the first two loved swimming and all weathers. My current rescue Jess hates water and rain, quick pee and back in. I get the impression that some collies don't like rain in their eyes due to the shape of their heads. I could do a survey and ask this lot.
  13. I have a 5 year old Rescue B/C, she pulls like a train and stalks anything that moves. She loves GSD's and Springers but will attack any Terrier. No rhyme or reason. I have taken her to agility for a year and she was very good at it. She loves a football and other toys. I have had Jess 3 years and we are good friends. I say this as I am going to follow this thread with interest. I stopped agility due to her getting diabetes and a bad leg. She loves local cats, sorry to hijack.
  14. I have a rescue B/C and was told she was 4 when I got her, I thought they guessed. The dentist/vet thought she was two years old. I have had her three years now, no grey hair but she sleeps like an 8 year old. We love her in any case.
