I don't think it is a fear thing because he wants, everything. Not sure how else to describe it aside from a, "I want it! I want it! Go! Go! Go!" type of thing. Never really thought about the lack of focus aspect being the issue. I will definitely try working on that and putting more emphasis on the treats during the walk than having it on the exercise.

You must be from Alberta...only people from that province would post something that ridiculous. I said if he was not so good the rest of the time, then the thought would have crossed my mind. Never said I was dumping him out on the street for the wolves, good lord... This is my third border collie, and neither of my first two had any issues at all like this, which is why I came on here to ask for some guidance on what might be the problem.

Hi everyone, My new border collie is now five months old, and has developed an extremely bad habit of jumping...at EVERYTHING. He is completely out of control on a leash outside, and its got to the point where I only walk him late at night so we run into less people. He does everything in his power to try get out of his leash and jump up like a fish out of water wildly and other people and dogs. He looks completely mad when he does this and refuses to stop. I have to pull him away from whatever it is that caught his attention. If he was not so good the rest of the time, especially with my other two year old border collie, the thought would have crossed my mind to get rid of him, because its madness, there is really no other way to describe it. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me, as this situation is getting out of control...and fast.

Definitely not a UTI, he is healthy as he can be. I always believed that dogs peeing in their "house" was very rare. He has been in it three times this week, all during the day, all three times he has peed. At night we leave the door open, he goes in and out, usually to bother Jet in his bigger bed across the room and try get him to play, no issues so far this week with accidents at night in the bedroom.

This is a new one for me. My new puppy Dodger is 9 weeks now and has shown extreme improvement on going outside thanks to some tips and advice from my other thread. This week he has had three accidents in the house. All three of them were in his kennel/crate almost immediately after going in. When we got Jet, our other border collie two years ago, it is the only place he wouldn't go. He even held it all the way from New York to Bogota under the plane, plus a four hour layover (~11 hours total) when he was just 6 months. Is there a reason why he wants to pee in his kennel so badly? Anyone have tips to make him stop?

I do have a crate for him, but I leave it with the door open otherwise he begins crying immediately when it's shut and does not let up. With the door open he goes inside and sleeps without issue. Jet was the same way and I recall it taking a month or two. Now Jet loves to be in with the door shut, no issues. Hoping Dodger will be the same.

Hi Everyone, As some may know from my other thread, I just got my second border collie, Dodger who is 8 weeks. Jet, my first border collie, who is now 2 years old, used to go to the bathroom just a couple times a day, but the problem was he didn't want to go outside because he was, and still is extremely shy. Dodger, my new dog, LOVES going outside, and getting him to go to the bathroom outside is effortless. However, he also LOVES going to the bathroom inside...and well, anywhere else in-between. Today it is just after 2pm, he has gone pee 9 times and pooped 2 times. I set an alarm to go out every two hours at night, and try to do so every 60-90 minutes during the day (I work from home). Jet was certainly never even half this bad. Is this normal? Does anyone have any tips to regulate this? For those thinking health issues, which I did. Both ways look fine to me. Even took Dodger by the vet when I first got him last week for a full check-up, no issues what so ever. Here are some pictures of both of them...

Hi Everybody, Just looking for a little advice. Jet is now a year and a half old. He has always been very outgoing and very curious. However, a week or so ago, it was like someone flipped a switch. He has become EXTREMELY excitable, and EXTREMELY loving. Up to last week, he would rarely cry. Now, he is marching around the house day and night, tail wagging, crying out of excitement. If we leave him alone for 5 minutes and come back, it was like we were gone for a week. He is very restless, and moves around all night. We have hardwood floors and the never ending "click, click click" of his nails when he trots around is becoming far more noticeable and far more annoying than ever. He has always loved to play and be around other dogs, but lately, he has been locked in and obsessed with every dog he sees. We have not had any change in the way we play with him, he gets a ton of action and a ton of attention. Nothing in or home as changed either. Same as usual. Any idea why he has gone from the calm, relaxed and friendly border collie to the energy full, emotional, super loving border collie lately?

Hi Everyone, Just curious if anyone else has been in the same situation as I am. Jet, my border collie, is just over a year old. I got him in Canada, and brought him with me to Colombia when he was just four months. For the past year we had been living in the same place here in Medellin. On Friday, we moved to the other side of the city into a new home. He is very unsettled and gets spooked by any and everything. Normally, he was very calm and very comfortable. His bed, house and all his toys are in the new home in similar locations within the house. We have all the same furniture and everything. I am surprised he is so worked up. It is going on three days now where he has barely slept or ate. I am surprised, because it certainly is not his first time changing homes, and neither of the other times did he have an issue. Anyone have any tips for getting him to settle down and settle in, or does it just take time?

Great to see all the replies, thank you for all the advice. Definitely going to try some the the ideas suggested with treats and stopping. I have watched some videos online that suggest you change direction as soon as the dog reaches the end of the leash, but with Jet, this turns into more of a fun game than anything, he ends up running back and forth. I know on walks in the past when I do stop dead in my tracks, Jet thinks he did something wrong and puts his ears down and stops, he is very nervous that way...always looking to impress, so I do think there is potential there. As far as barking goes, the crate idea seems like the way to go. I have never really gone that route before, but if it gives peace of mind to him as well as me, then it would be a win win for both.

Hi Everybody, I am certain the issues I am having with Jet are typical, and I am wondering if anyone has a fix for them? First, pulling on the leash. It is out of control! No matter where we are going Jet has to be first and it always has to be a race to get there. We just bought a shorter leash that is made like a bungy cord, that seems to take the strain off him as well as our shoulders, but still he won't stop pulling. Jet is a quick learner, are there some tips to use to train him not to pull that have worked for any of you? Second, barking while staying at home. Medellin is an extremely dog friendly city. We probably leave him at home by himself no more than once or twice a month. When we do, we leave him outside on the deck with all his toys and food. However, as we found out by setting up a camera (and from the neighbors) he spends his time alone standing barking into space. The thing is, we never hear him bark aside from when he leave him alone. Obviously he is telling us he doesn't like to be alone...but is there something to do to get him better at not barking when he is alone?

Hi Everyone, I made an account on this forum to try get a hold of what is going on with my Border Collie. Jet is almost ten months old now. For about the past two weeks now he has began licking the bottom of his feet on the pads of his paws and constantly smacking his lips, sort of like when you get something stuck to the top of your mouth. We checked his mouth out, and found nothing. We then took him to the vet, and left him over night. They didn't find anything unusual either and sent him back home. After being his normal self for a few days we noticed tonight that he has gone back to smacking his mouth and licking his feet. When my girlfriend went to brush his teeth tonight, she noticed his gums were swollen and his breath had a very bad smell. Is anyone at all familiar with this behavior? Is it something serious or is it simply just part of growing up and having his teeth fully develop? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
