  1. I am always getting harped on by my in-laws about my dogs. They're too thin blah blah blah. Yu-Gi my "bone rack" is about 24" and 40#. Tacoma 23" and about 43#. Pepper 21" aand 38#. All acceptable weights I think. Well we went out of town for Tanksgiving. My father in law took it upon himself to severly overfeed them while I was gone. He was giving Yu-Gi 12 cups a day and the other 2 8 cups! Tacoma will not gorge himself like the others, thank God. But Pepper and Yu-Gi looked like disgusting balloons. I could have killed him. Sorry for babbling...
  2. Been a long time since I posted. Tacoma ALWAYS throws up his water. He drinks it so fast that half of it comes up.
  3. Being in Colorado, we don't see a whole lot of bugs around here. And for those who don't know, if a misquito carring hw encounters temps that fall below 46 degrees (if I remember right) the hw is killed off in the bug. I've never put my dogs on any flea, tick, hw, etc. None of them have ever had a problem. Now if I were to move to Florida, I might change my thinking. But it all comes down to would you over medicate yourself or kids if you didn't have to? Then why your dog?
  4. Tacoma had several scrapings done. But no mites were found. I was given a antibiotic cream for his eye due to his scratching. But stress?? Guess I'm not a vet. Maybe others will have more input.
  5. All 3 of mine are large. Pepper, female, 21" and 37#. Tacoma, male, 23" and 41". Yu-Gi, 7 month male pup, 21.5" and 32#. I think he'll be much bigger than Tacoma as an adult. The 3 of them are all leg.
  6. We had Pepper on puppy food for about 2 months. When we brought home her brother they both went on adult food. Yu-Gi was feed adult food right from weaning. He's 7 months on Wednesday, and I must say, just as scrawny and ugly as the other 2 were at that age. He's an almost shocking 22" and a healthy 32#.
  7. Yep, had several tests done on him. Thyroid was my main concern. I had a cat that we finally had to put down at the age of 24. He was on meds for his thyroid for 2 years. The last few months were a battle. The vet and I decided Tacoma is pretty much just a psyhco dog. Even with high quality food and supplements, he still itches. He does have a full coat a hair now though. Thats why I wonder where all the fur in his crate is coming from. His nickname is Spaz....
  8. Maybe a call to your vet would be helpful. Tacoma at about 6-7 months started thinning everywhere. After tons of testing, we found no mites, wasn't mange, no proof of allergies. Tacoma is a very itchy dog and loves to scratch his eyes and pull the hair from his legs and sides. I vacuum huge piles of hair out of his crate everyday! He's kinda retarded I think. There could be tons of reasons for thinning hair. To be sure what's really wrong, I'd phone the vet.
  9. Cat carriers with a bare floor have worked wonders for all 3 of mine. Pepper was in a cat carrier until almost 3 months. She was a tiny thing. Yu-Gi out grew it in about 2 weeks. BTW, Pepper has always pooped in her crate. For the longest time I couldn't understand why. Then it came to me. Poor Pepper was signaling to get out to potty, but she does so silently. As soon as I figured this out, problem solved. Now when I hear her claws clicking around as she turns to look for the bathroom, she goes out. Ya gotta be a light sleeper with this one.
  10. I was looking at Yu-Gi's feet today. Huge yes, but I could swear the spotting on his feet is black. He's dark brown, but this color was VERY dark. When compared to Pepper or Tacomas fur it looks as black as theirs. Is it possible for a red to have black coloring? Like a reverse tri?
  11. Ah, Melanie, they need to meet Pepper along with Fly. She's got SHORT fur and sheds like a monster! Tacoma, wavy medium coated, sheds moderately, and Yu-Gi, somewhere between smooth and medium, NEVER sheds. Go figure. BTW, Pepper and Tacoma are half sibblings. Both Pepper's parents were smooth, but carry rough. She was the only smooth in the litter. Tacoma's mother was very rough, and he came out medium. Don't you love how in just one breed you can have so many variations.
  12. To my understanding, smooth is the dominant. I don't fully get it all myself, but if you were to have a smooth and a rough produce a litter, smooth would dominate. But you have to factor in if the parents of this litter are SS (smooth) Ss(smooth, carrier of rough) or ss (rough). Others will have more to add I'm sure.
  13. Yes I have seen Bean (DoubleTroubleBCs). Try visiting www.colliecorner.com TONS of pics there
  14. Sounds like she's blue merle. Got a picture?
  15. I have personally seen 3 all white bcs, and several with coloring around the head and base of tail. It's really pretty common. My female is white factored out of an solid black female and a mostly white male. Go to http://www.colliecorner.com There's a ton of pics of white dogs. Pepper's pics are at http://www.geocities.com/barbpoole
