  1. I had this issue with my pup and it all seemed as if it started over night. I am lucky enough to work at a family business and while he was a puppy he would come to work with me. All of the sudden one day it was like someone flipped a switch. He went from wanting to love on everyone to being territorial, unsocial, and borderline mean. He would bark and growl and carry on something awful. With him I cured this by everyone that came in the office/house I would hand a treat. My dog would come around the corner ready to raise hell, only to be met with a dog treat. He eventually started loving visits from people again and has not had an issue since.
  2. When I got Tucker I really did not do a whole lot of research. I had just bought a house and knew I wanted a dog and for sure wanted that dog to be a Border Collie. I found him on, don't quote me on this, puppyfinder.com. Don't ban me from the site but I honestly did not take into consideration his ability to be registered, herding abilities or anything like that. I just knew two things; I wanted a border collie and I wanted a unique one. I know nothing about the people I purchased him from other than what I've found on their website from when they asked me for pictures of him. Here is their website. I love my dog and that is all that mattered to me.
  3. I was taking a look at this; http://www.bordercollies.es/colors.html This site references a seal Merle tricolor. Could he possibly be that? He was definitely not black as a puppy.
  4. Thanks for all the responses! I was looking at that link and I believe you all are correct. The only thing I'm confused about is it says in the article "these dogs, as we will see below, are born dark, or only have tan points when they are born, and the black receeds with age," Here is a picture of Tucker when he was a puppy. He was born tan and that turned to the black saddle he has now. Oh well I always knew he did everything backwards. Thanks for everyones help! Next person that asks what color he is will get a knowledgable answer instead of a "ummmmmmm."
  5. First of all let me start by saying what a great knowledge base this site has. I started lurking here around 6 months ago when I was looking for information on training techniques for my border collie Tucker. Tucker is now a little over a year old and over that year has seen a lot of controversy regarding his color. Tucker was purchased from a breeder here in Tennessee and both of his parents are the "text book" black and white. The other puppies in his litter vary anywhere from black & white to red to whatever Tucker is. I've had people tell me there is no way he is a border collie because he is not "colored right" and so on and so forth. I know he is a border collie - of that there is no question in my mind. However what I don't know is what color to call him so I thought I'd ask the experts here. What color is my dog?
