  1. Can you explain this balancing act a bit more? I'll have an 8 week pup on tuesday and i'd love to be doing all of the things you described with him, but some people have stressed their concern regarding Parvo and that I shouldnt be taking him to any public places?! I understand the first 16 weeks are the most crucial in regards to socialization, so I'm a bit confused... thanks
  2. Yes, thanks Liz. I have researched this a little bit, hoping I can find a vet that will do it in the area of the pup. Any idea of the difference in cost compared to neutering?
  3. I fed my last dog nature's variety instinct, my favorite food that i've found over the years. I'm going to be bringing home a new addition who is 8 weeks home next week, and will be feeding him the same food, as it is an all life stages food. The crude protein is rated at 36%... I can't imagine this being too high, but I could be wrong?
  4. This may be a strange question, however I am not finding much info online so I thought I'd ask. I am adopting a BC puppy and the rescue has strict rules that dogs must be spayed/neutered before being adopted. Although I have no desire to breed him, I am concerned with lack of hormones in regards to his natural growth progression. He will only be 8 weeks when scheduled to be neutered. I was hoping they would allow me to sign a contract of sorts promising that I will have him taken care of in due time, but I'm not making any progress. I understand their stance, with so many unwanted litters coming in, however I consider myself to be a very responsible dog caretaker and would definitely follow through with what I intend. If they remain solid on their "rules", are there any hormonal supplements for a young pup that would help him grow according to his natural schedule? He will be my companion either way, but with the very active lifestyle that I live and the abundance of land that he will live on, I'd hate to see him have joint issues before he gets into his senior years. thanks for the input!
  5. thank you, Sue. Is the deafness the main concern with the color like his?
  6. Hello BC boards! Excited to be here as I'm looking for a BC pup to be my new companion. My question is in regards to the coloring of a BC puppy and any health issues that may or may not arise. My first and only other BC had a completely different color pattern, and so this territory is new for me. The pup has a white face and chest, blue eyes, black ears, and what looks to be some light ticking on his face. He is almost 10 lbs at 6 weeks, the biggest of the litter. My concern is what I've read about BCs with white faces, and only one of his eyes has a partial black rim, the other is pink. He is 6 weeks old in the pics. Will his eye rims fill in? I have read info online that this could be a problem with his genetics? I am not looking to train him as a stock dog, however he will be roaming with me on a 300 acre ranch and I would like to do some agility training, so I am hoping these health concerns that are associated with white BC's won't be an issue. My apology if these questions are redundant or elementary, I certainly appreciate all responses and am happy to be here! Thank you, Kyle
