  1. Hello Forum, I have a lengthy story of looking for my next agility dog behind me. I originally started seriously looking about a year ago. I got in contact with a well-known performance breeder (I know...I know. I had reasons for this that I still stand by but ultimately it was not meant to be) and put down a deposit. Very frustratingly, and unfortunately, although I was given hope to receive one of the puppies the breeder decided to place her puppies with other people on the list and not with me (basically, too few puppies and too many people). I still do not have a date or specific litter that I am promised to get a puppy from. This has been exceedingly annoying and sad for me as I was looking forward to this puppy very much. It was the final event to made me consider going back to looking at working lines BCs. Now I don't even know where to start looking. I understand that many working BC people do not have an internet presence as they work on their farms (duh) and often only breed when they want a puppy themselves and then don't advertise. I know that the recommended method is to go to a trial and talk to people, but we live very remote and afaik there is only one sheep farm in our whole state (NM) which doesn't have a trial coming up. So basically, if you could recommend a breeder for me, that would be awesome. I have gotten in touch with some local herding people who will look around for me, too, but I thought it would be best to utilize the internet as well I am looking for a small to medium-sized (not too large) BC from health-tested working parents who will do competition agility with me, as well as of course be a beloved companion and friend Thank you!!
  2. Some BCs also have minor eye sight issues so that might be, too. Not saying that I think it is very likely in your case but it does surface sometimes and usually does not impair them a lot other than in very specific eye-dependent tasks (like catching a frisbee in mid-air, jumping in agility etc).
  3. Oh, I am sorry. English is not my first language. I did not know the difference between whack and whip
  4. Why was the dog whipped again? Do I understand correctly that he was either trying to escape or seeking your safety? Why would one punish a dog for that?
  5. Ok, thank you for this great advice! I had contacted a rescue here some time before and they said they are pretty reluctant to place their grown dogs with children (we have 2) because of liability issues etc. I will try to get in touch with some people in my area.
  6. Yes I contacted him and he said he has an upcoming litter that he might be willing to sell me a pup of. I am not making any kind of committment yet, just looking around to get a feel, and CO is not too far from us so I asked.
  7. Can I repeat my question about Wagner Border Collies? Does anyone know about this breeder? I am really a beginner in this breeder thing so I appreciate any thoughts
  8. Yeah Pam Wolf I think we are talking about the same picture. https://www.google.com/search?q=lea+triskle+border+collies&newwindow=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=9SP1UbHsBYeCygGzv4DYDg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1138&bih=554#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=Y48NfFXOVvxswM%3A%3Bl4oQHhr3zmJSAM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.trisklebordercollie.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F06%252Fleas-sheep1.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.trisklebordercollie.com%252Flea%252F%3B960%3B720 That is the link to the image.
  9. All good to know, thank you! I will try to post the wild picture later (am on my mobile right now). It also says on the website that the dogs have passed their HIC and PT titles, but from what I read that is an AKC version of herding? I read another thread on this board that linked to a video of an AKC herding trial that basically was just the sheep following the handler with the dog walking along. Thank you for your recommendation of the Free To Be Ranch. I asked them and they will have a litter in spring, so this might work out for us. What is your guys' opinion on Wagner Border Collies? They are not too far, either.
  10. Thank you guys. Yes I know there are several red flags with this breeder. I was asking since his website (it seems to work on and off - sorry my links did not work) shows some of his dogs herding. It looks kind of wild? I am by no means a herding expert. I had not heard of conformation breeders advertising withtheir dogs' herding skills in pictures before. I am located in NM. I know of the free to be ranch, which is a couple hours from my place. As far as I know there are no others in NM, right?
  11. Hello, First of all, thank you to the administrators for validating my account, and thanks to the great community here. I have been reading along silently for some time and value the opinion of you guys very highly. Without going into too much detail, could you give me your thoughts and opinions to this breeder: http://www.trisklebordercollie.com/ (hope that works - if not, here is another link to one if the menu items: http://www.trisklebordercollie.com/lea/) I do not want to say too much about why I am asking right now, maybe via PM if someone would be available. Thank you very much, and I am looking forward to lots of great conversations on these boards, Reddish.
