He has been training and running dogs his whole life and is an extremely popular, accomplished and well respected clinician. Jack has helped both novice and experienced handlers to improve upon and fine-tune their training and handling skills. He emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1971. He initially lived in North Carolina for three years but now lives in Butler, Missouri with his wife and daughter. Jack has trialed heavily from the mid seventies to eighties and started teaching herding clinics in 1979. Jack is constantly learning and feels that //his training methods have evolved over time. She had never experienced sheep before that time so she got the dog to help her out !! And so it began,... her two children Doug (now 32) and Val (29) helped her every step of the way by managing the farm and traveling to dog trials. Little did she know the adventure Jock would start her on !! Fortunately she was able to go to Yorkshire, England twice to work as a shepherd on the Dales with her daughter as companion and assistant shepherd. She learned a lot about sheep which in turn taught her to train dogs. She started training dogs not long after she started running Jock in trials. A man had told her, "if you can train him, you can train anything!" He was quite a handful and to this day Jack Knox laughs at what a wild but strong dog Jock was. So now, almost 27 years later she is still training dogs, Border Collies and the occasional upright working dog. Lyle has about 12 of her own dogs and usually 6+ dogs in for training. Matt, her husband, works dogs also when he's not playing the cello for the prestigious Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has two girls that grew up on the farm with them and are now off to college. Lyle's educational background is a B.S. in Elementary Ed and Physical Education, K-12 which she draws on to teach her seminars, lessons, as well as training dogs. She has won and placed in many trials throughout the years and a few of those highlights are: -winning the Blue Ridge Open SDT in 1992 with Jock. Lyle's first win with her first dog! -winning the NAILE trial in 1994 with Mick (overall winner) but also winning day one with Cap, placing 2nd day two with Cap. -winning the Bluegrass 3 years in a row with Cap! (the overall as well as each day) -placed 4th at the National finals in 1996, placed 4th with Jace at the Nationals another year. Most years being in the top 17 at the Nationals with her dogs Jock, Mick, Cap, Jim, and Shep! -2007 Lyle won the prelims at Meeker, CO with Shep, and placed 12th with Moses. Shep also won the "best drive" award in the double lift, and ended up 5th overall. -more recently, June 2011, Shep and Lyle won the prestigious trial, "The Big One" , both days, on unbroke sheep and a 900 yard outrun! - September 2011, Shep and Lyle traveled to Penrith, England to compete in the World Trial! Competing with the 240 best handlers in the world, we place 16th ! Hello Everyone,...... We made earlier than normal contact with this year with Jack Knox and Lyle Lad in an attempt to get definite dates for this years herding clinics. This also gives our clients more time to think about and arrange to come if they are the least bit interested. We are located in Geauga County, which is situated in Northeast Ohio. Our address is 8999 Fairmount Rd., Novelty, Ohio 44072. Lyle Lad is scheduled for June 8&9, 2013. Jack Knox is scheduled for July 27&28, 2013. He is coming a few weeks earlier this year as he has some Canadian commitments. Pricing will be similar to last year. We don't expect much will change, but will keep all of you informed. Both Lyle and Jack are open to adding a third day if enough people are interested to cover the extra expense. We can add an extra day on either end of the normal Saturday/Sunday clinic. So again, if enough people show interest, we can either start on the Friday before or extend them into the Monday after. The extra day can be more of the same from the clinic, we can do a shedding clinic, do some trial format or a combination depending on interest. Two day clinics in the past have been about $200.00 or so and we would expect adding a third day would bump that up to about $300.00. There are several close, convenient and dog friendly motels and eateries about twenty minutes away. Lunch and beverages are provided at the farm daily. We keep trying every year to come up with at least a two week cut off date for entries prior to the clinics. Preferably we would like to have everything locked into place three to four weeks in advance as it makes life easier on us to plan and also more importantly, it would give the clinicians we hire ample notice to make other arrangements should a clinic not fill. We don't subsidize the clinics we host, so there must be a minimum of entrants to hold one. Also, putting on clinics etc. is partly how these talented folks make their livings. We would prefer to be able to let them know enough in advance if a clinic should not fill so that they would at least have the option of doing something else productive. She had never experienced sheep before that time so she got the dog to help her out !! And so it began,... her two children Doug (now 32) and Val (29) helped her every step of the way by managing the farm and traveling to dog trials. Little did she know the adventure Jock would start her on !! Fortunately she was able to go to Yorkshire, England twice to work as a shepherd on the Dales with her daughter as companion and assistant shepherd. She learned a lot about sheep which in turn taught her to train dogs. She started training dogs not long after she started running Jock in trials. A man had told her, "if you can train him, you can train anything!" He was quite a handful and to this day Jack Knox laughs at what a wild but strong dog Jock was. So now, almost 27 years later she is still training dogs, Border Collies and the occasional upright working dog. Lyle has about 12 of her own dogs and usually 6+ dogs in for training. Matt, her husband, works dogs also when he's not playing the cello for the prestigious Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has two girls that grew up on the farm with them and are now off to college. Lyle's educational background is a B.S. in Elementary Ed and Physical Education, K-12 which she draws on to teach her seminars, lessons, as well as training dogs. She has won and placed in many trials throughout the years and a few of those highlights are: -winning the Blue Ridge Open SDT in 1992 with Jock. Lyle's first win with her first dog! -winning the NAILE trial in 1994 with Mick (overall winner) but also winning day one with Cap, placing 2nd day two with Cap. -winning the Bluegrass 3 years in a row with Cap! (the overall as well as each day) -placed 4th at the National finals in 1996, placed 4th with Jace at the Nationals another year. Most years being in the top 17 at the Nationals with her dogs Jock, Mick, Cap, Jim, and Shep! -2007 Lyle won the prelims at Meeker, CO with Shep, and placed 12th with Moses. Shep also won the "best drive" award in the double lift, and ended up 5th overall. -more recently, June 2011, Shep and Lyle won the prestigious trial, "The Big One" , both days, on unbroke sheep and a 900 yard outrun! - September 2011, Shep and Lyle traveled to Penrith, England to compete in the World Trial! Competing with the 240 best handlers in the world, we place 16th ! He has been training and running dogs his whole life and is an extremely popular, accomplished and well respected clinician. Jack has helped both novice and experienced handlers to improve upon and fine-tune their training and handling skills. He emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1971. He initially lived in North Carolina for three years but now lives in Butler, Missouri with his wife and daughter. Jack has trialed heavily from the mid seventies to eighties and started teaching herding clinics in 1979. Jack is constantly learning and feels that //his training methods have evolved over time. He has placed in and won numerous trials, including USBCHA National Finals. Jack is in the ABCA Hall Of Fame. She had never experienced sheep before that time so she got the dog to help her out !! And so it began,... her two children Doug (now 32) and Val (29) helped her every step of the way by managing the farm and traveling to dog trials. Little did she know the adventure Jock would start her on !! Fortunately she was able to go to Yorkshire, England twice to work as a shepherd on the Dales with her daughter as companion and assistant shepherd. She learned a lot about sheep which in turn taught her to train dogs. She started training dogs not long after she started running Jock in trials. A man had told her, "if you can train him, you can train anything!" He was quite a handful and to this day Jack Knox laughs at what a wild but strong dog Jock was. So now, almost 27 years later she is still training dogs, Border Collies and the occasional upright working dog. Lyle has about 12 of her own dogs and usually 6+ dogs in for training. Matt, her husband, works dogs also when he's not playing the cello for the prestigious Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has two girls that grew up on the farm with them and are now off to college. Lyle's educational background is a B.S. in Elementary Ed and Physical Education, K-12 which she draws on to teach her seminars, lessons, as well as training dogs. She has won and placed in many trials throughout the years and a few of those highlights are: -winning the Blue Ridge Open SDT in 1992 with Jock. Lyle's first win with her first dog! -winning the NAILE trial in 1994 with Mick (overall winner) but also winning day one with Cap, placing 2nd day two with Cap. -winning the Bluegrass 3 years in a row with Cap! (the overall as well as each day) -placed 4th at the National finals in 1996, placed 4th with Jace at the Nationals another year. Most years being in the top 17 at the Nationals with her dogs Jock, Mick, Cap, Jim, and Shep! -2007 Lyle won the prelims at Meeker, CO with Shep, and placed 12th with Moses. Shep also won the "best drive" award in the double lift, and ended up 5th overall. -more recently, June 2011, Shep and Lyle won the prestigious trial, "The Big One" , both days, on unbroke sheep and a 900 yard outrun! - September 2011, Shep and Lyle traveled to Penrith, England to compete in the World Trial! Competing with the 240 best handlers in the world, we place 16th !
