  1. Here's a link to a running training program: Pooch to 5K http://www.poochto5k.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/PoochTo5kTimed.pdf (Its very similar to Couch to 5k for humans.) Happy running! Tina
  2. Do you mean chlorophyll? Or is this something else? Thanks!
  3. Yes, dog training is a business (in Chicago and in DC metro areas). - Basic puppy class, obedience, intro agility will run you around $150/6 weeks - A more "involved" class (more knowledgeable instructor, greater interaction and feedback) will run you around $250-300 dollars for 6-8 weeks - Agility privates are $90/hour
  4. I am considering taking the course and well and would appreciate any input! Thanks!
  5. My dog does the reverse sneezing thing as well. My vet said it was due to allergies ... and I noticed that when my friends with allergies were having bad allergy days, the dog would get the reverse sneezing episodes (not sure what kind of allergy it is though).
  6. Besides those mentioned above ... Can anyone suggest any good online/book resources for training blind crosses? Thanks, Tina
  7. I, too, am in the same situation as Jenny. So far, it has worked out for us. (My only observation is that once he reached maturity, he seemed to be occasionally "targeted" by the fixed males at the dog park. Needless to say, we don't go to dog parks anymore!) Cheers, Tina
  8. Can you believe how many Border Collies there are in NW DC?!?!?!
  9. He is 1 year 10 months (intact).
  10. Rudolph has what appears a small growth on his upper lip (half the size of a pencil eraser). I first noticed it about a week and a half ago, when it was a small bump, and it has now grown. It almost looks like a wart or a mole (think Cindy Crawford). Its black in color, like his lip, and dry. (I can't get a decent picture.) He isn't itching or fussing it ... but it looks gross. We are going to the vet on Monday ... Any thoughts on what it could be? Thanks.
  11. I, too, am in the DC area. Where did you and Daisy take the course?
  12. Would that be at the very top of the shoulder, or the middle part of the joint? Also, he should be standing (vs. sitting) when I measure him, correct? Thanks for the help!
  13. I would like to measure my dog's height. He is on the taller (and larger, 53 lbs., but lean) side. I just don't know how to go about doing it. (He is the tallest Border Collie I have seen. I got him overseas, from Argentina ... wonder if they are taller over there???) Any suggestions? Thanks!
  14. I recently took my 1.5 year old male BC ("Rudolph") to the vet b/c Rudolph had diarrhea with blood (he also had low energy, itching w/no evidence of any sort of bug, and he developed a small, pencil-eraser sized, bald-spot by his eye). I have been feeding him a lamb and rice blend of Eukanuba (I don't have the name of the exact formula handy) for at least the past year. He didn't have any problems with the food until recently ... he used to eat it right up, but for the past 1.5 months, he has been turning up his nose at it. The only way I could get him to eat his food was to top it with something. The vet ran a bunch of tests on him and determined that Rudolph did not have giardia, parasites, or anything viral; the tests indicated a bacterial overgrowth. The vet said he thinks Rudolph probably has food allergies, and the symptoms he was exhibiting are consistent with that (diarrhea, low energy, itching, the bald spot). So now Rudolph is on antibiotics and a hypoallergenic food (Hills Prescription Diet Z/D). Any thoughts? Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for your input ... I just want Rudolph to go back to his happy self!
