Hey, we live in Haverhill too!!! Flynn has similar issues with dogs (on leash), if he can't meet another dog, he starts barking and whining. We've been having him sit and focus on us during walks when other dogs are around. We go down to the Cape on weekends in the summer, and bring Flynn to the beach. We are still working on redirecting him by bringing him to the water to swim or by playing Frisbee on a long leash. Flynn is 2 years old, so we think he'll get the hang of it pretty soon. He has a thing about small dogs or black dogs, particularly GSDs, doesn't like them at all, but we can get him to sit and focus on us, or tell him "quiet". Flynn has been mistaken for a springer spaniel or a border collie cross; he's often mistaken for a girl too.

Flynn likes to give backtalk too. In fact, several nights ago he started barking out our bedroom window around midnight, waking me and hubby from a sound sleep. We told him to quiet down and he settled in his spot next to the bed, grumbling away. Hubby said, "That's enough!" and Flynn continued to grumble. I told Flynn, "you always have to get in the last word don't you?" and he woofed. At that point, we sent Flynn out to the hall, where he continued to grumble. I could only laugh at that point.

Our BC Flynn likes to roll onto his back and wiggle after bringing back a ball or frisbee until we pick it up. I think he likes to make us laugh.
