Those that care probably already know, but just in case... The National Sheepdog Finals results are at

Nursery is finished; check it out.

Gotta love the internet.

Wish I was there to see it.

Barbara's second Nursery Championship. It is just wonderful and she needed that.
I hope her run at the Finals with Zip will go equally well and who knows, she may do just as good.

First day of the Finals and Barbara is leading with Zip, Ali is right behind with Bill.
Both are out of '96 national Champion Ben with Ali. Dams are different.

Wow...2 Ben offspring leading. That IS impressive.

A number of very strong contenders still to run.

Has a handler ever won both Nursery and Open Finals in the same year?

I wish I was there.

Elizabeth

Some came very close.

Bill Berhow's Nick, after winning the Futurity,in the Finals and they were either 3rd or 4th.(I forgot)

Dodie Green with Cord, won the Nursery and was in the top 20 in the Finals.May have been 18th place

Stu Ligon with Nap,Reserve Nursery Champion and 6th in the Finals.

Couple of other strong contenders are also out of Ben. Ali's Sweep and Stu's Nick (litternates as well as Bill). There are couple of more out of Ben at the Finals.

It's beginning to look like I maybe able to make a mad dash down comes this Friday and hopefully catch the last 20 dogs runs.

Diane,

I think Elizabeth was asking about same dog/handler teams not just the handlers with different dogs.

The dogs I wrote about are the young dogs who ran in Nursery and the Finals within the same year.

I forgot to add Bud Boudreau and Swael's run last year, ran and placed 10th (?) in the Nursery and 8th in the Finals.

Actually, I phrased my question about "handlers" rather than "dog/handler" teams....I thought it too far fetched for a Nursery dog to do both, however Inci has come up with an impressive list none the less.

Oops,duh!

Then the answer is no.

However Angie Pickle won the Nursery with Sam and won the Finals with Sam,just a few years apart if that counts.

So,Nick and Sam are the only dogs who won the Nursery and went on to become the National Champions few years later.

Elizabeth,
Most Nursery dogs do run Open and do qualify to run at the Nationals within the same year. One dog who was the Nursery Champion and was most likely to win the Finals died right before the Finals, that was Tommy Wilson's Cap.
Whichever trials they entered, they placed first well ahead of others points wise.

Inci,

>>I think Elizabeth was asking about same dog/handler teams not just the handlers with different dogs<<

This is what I read that Elizabeth wrote:

>> Has a handler ever won both Nursery and Open Finals in the same year? <<

It doesn't say to me about the same dog/handler team, just about a handler who has ever won both Nursery and Finals....

And as far as I know no one in either of both scenarios above has done that....

Cap died at the Meeker trial.

He did not overheat when he ran.
He was fine after he ran.

Later in the afternoon, Tommy found him dead in his crate.

To my knowledge. am autopsy was not done. Speculation was heart.
