Yay my first post on these boards :P. I was just wondering what books you guys would recomend for agility. I plan on getting Agility Right from the Start, but I havn't got a clue on what else would be good. I have been doing agility for 2 years, I have my 7 year old Lab who is basically retired due to a bad shoulder, a 3 year old Golden Retriever who I am going to AAC regonals this year (in Sask), and my 4 month old Border collie puppy.

So the books I am looking for are sorta all over the place I need puppy foundadtions and games. Also things to help me and my golden busy with new challenges and to help us get better and faster. Her weaknesses would be knocking down bars (although its normally with her tail), and also the main thing is distance and speed. Shes pretty fast if I can get her hyped up, but shes generally a really sweat mellow dog, I find that tug really winds her up :P. Also I have heard of crate games is that just a video or is there a dvd too? And Alphabet Drills book do you recomend? One more thing with these I am getting I plan on getting off of Amazon.ca.

Although not an Agility book per se, I recommend the Control Unleashed Puppy book. The CU exercises are a great foundation for any dog who is going to participate in sports, and the puppy book is great for getting that foundation. That's really what CU is perfect for - to create a focused and confident sport partner - although it's applications go far beyond that.

Thanks I will look into both of those and see. Root Beer that sounds perfect for one of the things I was looking for. I want some good boooks for things just foundation wise for Dizzy I would like to do more than just agility with her eventually just agility is mainly for what I plan for right now. I have heard of Shaping Success I just didn't really know what it was all about.

Linda Mecklburgs book about jumping really helped my young man with collection, working through the exercises really helped both of us.

I found the control unleashed book at my library, (I am checking there begore buying) so I will be reading that one for sure. Also I plan on reading Click to Clam I have heard alot about that book and it sounds good. My dogs aren't really reactive, but if they ever become so than I know how to fix it. I really want to read Shaping Success, but the only place I can find it is on cleanrun.com and I don't really like odering from there just because of the shiping expense, although, if I have to manby I will have to do an order.

You can get shaping success directly from SG's site, cheaper shipping (8$ i think?!) for us Canadians.

Is it the puppy CU book or the first one? IMO the first is hard to follow, and just blah.(book writtinh style not methods) The puppy one is fantastic apparently. I plan on ordering it myself because I just don't enjoy the format of the regular one.

Love, love the alphabet drills book!! So many exercises.

Crate games is a DVD.

Susan salo stuff for jumping style (ie. Knocked bars). Her background is from equestrian show jumping. Great stuff.

Ian Dunbar. Patricia mc Connell. Greg derrett. Silvia trekman (just throwing around some more names of ppl I love with books/DVDs out)

I LOVE the Alphabet Drills books! We use it in class sometimes too. Lots of practice ideas of varying degrees of difficulty. Its a great help when we practice at home and gives me lots of ideas on how to work on specific things.
