I need to buy a new matterss and was wondering if anyone here has a memory foam matterss.
What do you like and dislike about them I know this is way off topic but this place has such a wide variety of people I thought it might be a good place to get a decent comparision. TIA -------------------- Kristen

Dog or human? lol...
I have slept on one at my sisters house and found it got very hot and was a little too soft for me as a whole mattress, but I liked that my sore hip was less sore. So, I bought a 2" overlay many years ago and I love that. And, when I got married and upgraded mattress size to a Queen, I cut up the old full size and filled my crate pads with it, and my old dog with a bad back LOVES it! He sleeps in his open crate 75% of the time he is sleeping (hes cute, he stays next to my side of the bed until he thinks I am asleep and then toddles off to sleep in his crate). |

I used to have a memory foam mattress. I loved it! It was so incredibly comfortable. The only downside is that they are hot in that they retain your body heat. Pleasant in the winter but can get a little uncomfortably hot in the summer unless you keep the air conditioner on.

I need a better bed, and I've been doing a lot of research on the subject, which I find a very frustrating one. Too many choices, too wide a price spread, and too little logic to help you choose. But I did conclude that Bed In A Box might be a good way to go. Check it out.

I couldn't afford the full MF mattress so I bought a Sealy pillow top that has a layer of MF built in. Best sleep I've had in 15 years. The dogs love it too.

For the price I thought they seemed like a good deal, i've been doing researh on them and hot is one of the drawbacks.
Considering I'm in the throws of night time hot flashes maybe I better look elsewhere. I have a really expensive New Englander matteress that I thought I loved but lately I've been having sore shoulders and hips when I get up. I think it's to firm. Thanks for the tips. I'm still going to look at bed in a box. (I think I already saw that one) Sam's Club has one that toots latex and memory foam which is supposed to be a bit less heat retaining. So many decisions. Wonder if they make a cool pad like I've seen for dogs for a human? -------------------- Kristen

There are pillows blankets and PJ's for hot flashes: pillows ect... There is also something called the chillow pillow that keeps your pillow cool.

I slept on one recently, and it was awesome. It was a tempurpedic. My friend has it for her bad back and she says it helps.
I have a fairly expensive pillowtop, and I now wish I got a memory foam instead. -------------------- ![]() The Crew: Mick, Sinead, and Ginsberg |

Sleep Like the Dead seems like a good site for reviews and comparisons between brands and models. You can read up on the pros and cons of the Sam's Club mattress there.

We have a Tempurpedic Cloud and LOVE IT. We had previously been waking up with sore backs and hips and not getting a good nights sleep so we decided to invest in a really good mattress. It has been worth every penny. I think you can get cheaper versions and they would still be a nice option if you are looking for comfort. They do need about 1 - 2 weeks to break in, so at first they might seem a little stiff.

I know that we put a memory foam topper on our bed for DH. I found it comfortable but I was so hot that I was totally miserable so..we took it off. Perhaps the Tempur mattresses are better than just the toppers.

Before you got to hot did you like the topper?
I wasn't really sure the bed was causing my issues but after reading responces here and doing more research I'm pretty sure it's my firm matteress. I still don't know what to do. Maybe wait till it's cool and then try the foam bed. OK so now I can see what I'll be doing. Not only changing bedding for the winter but changing my matteress? This achy back and shoulders is really doing a number on my smile! Thanks for all the tips and links. The Sleep like the dead site is a good one for comparisions. -------------------- Kristen

OK...off to buy some fish oil and more glucosomine.
Sure beats the price of a new matteress considering mine is really not old! We'll see if it helps! I do sometimes remember to take advil before I go to bed. That makes a huge difference but geesh there's got to be something better than that! -------------------- Kristen

My mom takes a gluco supplement for a sore shoulder. It really makes a difference for her - until the shoulder doesn't hurt so she forgets to take it for a couple weeks... I think she uses Osteo- Biflex (sp?) brand cause it's on sale all the time with coupons at Wal-greens -------------------- |

When they put me back together from my botched heart surgeries, my chest is mis-aligned and my right side is all screwed up. I got a memory topper (thick) and it helps a ton. I can sleep w/o hurting and that is huge. If I sleep in the guest toom (when the upstairs is too hot) I wake up in severe pain. It also has helped with my general back issues. I got one for my trailer too.
The husband is so-so on it but he likes a hard bed. He humors me by keeping it on. I stayed at a friends house many year ago who had it and it was a restful sleep...finally, I took the plunge and got on. I got a good one and it was not cheap. The cheaper ones compress too much. I recommend it while Getty is so-so on it. -------------------- *************************

I have a memory foam topper for our old mattress too. I love it...so soft and comfy and I think its extended the life of the mattress by a few years...
