BC's first field trial of the year took place at Lee Lumb's beautiful Stirling Acres farm just outside Vernon, BC. Unlike last year, the temperature stayed above zero, and the sun even made the odd appearance! We ran on hair sheep, with good representation from Katahdin, Barb, St Croix and Dorper.

Isn't it a stunning back-drop?

We had a little grey Barb-type thing that would have been perfect to single ... but we couldn't convince anyone to go with her for the split.

Some guy named Pearse and his dog, Riel, laid down about the nicest drive I've ever seen on light, flighty sheep. Pearse, did you lose anything off your drive?

And finally, a baby dog brag! My young dog, Rex, made his trial debut this weekend, ably handled by Lee Lumb, with whom he has been training. Rexy and Lee won all three Nursery trials! I may retire him as an undefeated champ!!

Rex says thanks for all the congrats. I have to say, I am absolutely chuffed with what Lee has been able to do with him. He literally was a blank slate when he went to her for training in November, and despite the snow and ice, she has been able to train him up to a fairly impressive level, and he's not yet two! His flanks are so clean, and he takes them with lightening speed. I am going to have to up my game to handle this young dog. Lou has made things too easy for me - with this little fella, I'm going to have to pay attention!
