Eileen, if this is inappropriate, please remove. Just want to let my BC family to know what's going on here.

I live in Sonoma County, CA, about an hour north of San Francisco. We are being hit hard by fires. Over 15 fires across 3 counties. 11 confirmed deaths, over 150 missing persons reports. Today is predicted to be a very windy day, and last I looked, containment is at 0%.

I can't post links, some technical glitch, but if you want more info, start w/NBC Bay Area News. Sonoma County Fires would be another place to start.

Sonoma & Napa counties are a huge part of California's wine industries. And there are other thriving agricultural businesses here, including sheep, beef, and horse based businesses.

I am safe, and I've been able to get in touch with family & friends. I'm ready to take Gibbs and get to a safer place if needed. Just hearing a plane flying low over my place as I type this. Fire spotting, probably.

Prayers are always good. I'll try to keep updates posted.

I've been reading about this. Really awful.

I hope you and Gibbs will be safe. Take care of yourself and him and evacuate if necessary.

I just received an offer from a friend who lives about 10 m south of the county line for Gibbs and me to stay with her, if needed, for as long as necessary. Friends are wonderful things to have!

Containment is up to 10% in a few areas. With the extra manpower, (God bless all those who flew/drove a long way to help!) they've been able to do a few more controlled burns/backfires, and that seems to be really working.

It's still very frightening and sad, but looking up a tiny bit.

So sorry to hear this. I am sending you my best thoughts, and hoping that you and Gibbs will be safe and that the fire will not reach near your home.

Please keep us informed...

Thurs Oct 12 10 am PST update - there is good news! OVer night winds were not nearly as hard as expected. Sonoma County/Napa County got a break, and so did our wonderful first responders.

Hearing more and more from friends and their families. Very emotional for all right now ~ mixed bag. Grateful to be still here and sad for all the loss.

Thanks for your good wishes, I appreciate being able to share some details with you.

Oh, Ruth, I didn't realize you were over there amidst all that! I've a friend in Rhonert Park who was ready to evacuate, two friends who have evacuated, (one on Calistoga road, one just off Bennett Valley on Sonoma Mtn Road) and others waiting anxiously to see if they will be in harm's way. It's so unthinkably terrible. I know people there, I know the area and I just feel so bad.  :( Bless you and Gibbs, may you stay safe!

Gloria, if that's Billie T., she's a friend of mine, too. Thanks for the good wishes ~ the weekend is predicted to be windy. Not over yet.

So we have some friends in common.  Best wishes to you all.  May the winds subside and the poor firefighters get some much-needed rest!

This morning's feed on FB is a mix ~ more pix of devastation & loss, better news about containment. Winds predicted again to pick up over the weekend, so we'll see what the next couple days bring.

Our first responders continue to do incredible work. And I include those women & men from as far away as the Dakotas!

I am having to stay away from the pix of the burned out areas, it's too hard right now. There are definitely some feel good posts ~ people finding their pets safe and sound, finding some precious things in the few areas where residents are allowed back in for an hour at a time, family reunited after too many days of not knowing. Clinging to those.

thanks again for allowing me this space to share this disaster/recovery process.

Oct. 15, 1 pm update - looks much better today. Evacuated areas are slowly being opened as PG&E and other safety personnel make sure that areas are safe for residents to enter. No one at this point, I believe, is allowed to move back into an evacuated area, just to search for pets and perhaps essential items. Escorted in and out.

The sky is really blue right now, it looked good yesterday but today is gorgeous. Rain is predicted for Friday, and that will help air quality a lot.

Thanks so much for your concern and support.

Oct. 18, 10:30 a.m. update: The fog has rolled in and rain is predicted for Thurs/Fri. Our county is slowly returning to what is the New Normal. Went out to be with friends last night and will be doing so again on Thurs. evening.

Many, not all, of the mandatory evacuation orders were lifted. Some just so people could check their homes, some for people to actually move back in. I don't think the 'clean-up' processes have started. There are so many nasty things in the ash/rubble that I'm reading that you have to have an EPA certified recovery service clean up your property. More hoops, less patience.

Thanks again for providing this space and the support.

The fire is just the beginning. My heart goes out to all those affected.
