blazen
I am curious is it possible for Border Collies to have yellow or light eyes without having a liver or dilute gene? Is there a gene that affect eye color but not coat color?
Alchemist
I've known several black and white Border collies with very light, almost amber eyes. And they're black and white, not blue and white or red and white. One of these is my dog's mother, and the other is the father of a puppy I know who has very light eyes at present at only eight weeks of age - we're guessing he's got his daddy's eyes. Gloria Atwater
My boy has yellow eyes, but he's totally a traditional black-and-white dog.His mom is a muted tri, and I think there's a tri grandfather, but his dad is also traditional. There are no dilutes anywhere in the family tree that I know of. I think light eyes just happen. ~ GloriaP.S.I tried to attach a photo but I got an error that my post is too short? Gloria Atwater
<deleted - a failed attempt to attach a photo without having it uploaded somewhere else first>Edit to add, you can see in my profile picture how light Nick's eyes are. No dilute, just light eyes.
SS Cressa
Yes, they can. Both parents are black and white. They appear darker in the picture than they are. At least his eyes are always visible in pictures.
