How to submit radiographs to Cornell for evaluation

The ABCA accepts hip evaluations by OFA (fair, good excellent) and Cornell (within normal limits) for notation on the pedigree. While the submission process to OFA is well established in most veterinary clinics this may not be so for Cornell.

I have attached Cornell's Consultation/evaluation request form. You can print this form and bring it to your veterinary clinic to aid in submission of radiographs for evaluation. The cost for this service is listed below.

Radiograph Evaluation Fee: $50 (effective 08/12/09)

Like many other Vet schools/teaching hospitals, Cornell offers consultations to veterinarians and owners. The submission form posted above is the paperwork necessary for submission of radiographs to be read by Cornell's Veterinary Radiologists. This service can be used for any reason, not just for hip evaluations.

The ABCA accepts hip evaluations from OFA and Cornell of radiographs in the extended hip position ("OFA position") on dogs at least 2 years of age for notation on the pedigree. The ABCA does not accept PennHip.

Unlike OFA, Cornell returns a written report of the evaluation. In the report the radiologist discusses the hip joints AND any issues with the radiograph that may influence the hip evaluation. If the radiologist feels that the dog was not centered and this caused one hip to appear different than the other, this is reported and this is taken into consideration when they report on the hip quality. Unlike OFA, the radiologist is not reading and scoring 10s-100s of radiographs in one session; they are reading your radiograph.

Here is an up-to-date request for consultation form from Cornell.  The form has the current fees.  This form must be submitted by a Vet with the radiographs.  The word form can be edited to add the necessary information for the submission; it may be easier to provide this form electronically to your Vet than a printed copy.
