Sue R
Well, Diane, I thought the website raised a lot of red flags, but was avoiding saying anything negative. Thanks for contributing first-hand personal information. According to what I saw and what you say, I would never recommend this individual as a source for pups. For what it's worth, a number of the Arabs for sale looked skinny, and I realize that Arabs should be lean horses, but some did not look well tended - from the pictures on the website only, and I could easily be mistaken. Nevertheless, that did not improve my impression of this business. I am glad for those who have healthy, sensible dogs and sad for those who have had problems. Sue R
That was my thought precisely, and some seemed to be in winter coat as well, which led me to believe they were even thinner than they might have looked.
sixx
Thankfully Emma loves people! She is very sweet tempered, and any person could be her best friend. On the topic of breeders, does anyone know about Hob Nob in Rochester, WA? Someone once told me my pup Seek looked like a Hob Nob, not really sure about that one. Seek is a torpedo though. Fastest dog I've seen... I noticed that a lot of HN dogs are very competitive and fast... and Steeple (hob nob bc) won the 2009 National Agility Championships, pretty incredible video. I think 30.31 seconds. That's the only thing I could see about Seek being hob nob, her speed I want to own a red someday. Emma gives me a little bit of that fix though
agilityrunningdogs
In agility, Hob Nobs are considered one of the best, if not the best Border Collies out there. From Steeple to Slick, they are phenomenal. I don't know a whole lot about the breeder, only that is very hard to get one. There's an essay to write, a long application, then you must fly out there to see the pups and Jan, the breeder, matches the dog to you. I know a few people that have them, and they are amazing. PSmitty
Sixx, Hob Nob is a big sport breeder. Ridiculously high prices.
DeltaBluez Tess
How much for a Hob Nob?
Journey
I know a few people that have them, and they are amazing. For $2,500.00 they should be that and more.
PSmitty
^^Yup. Diane, they run between $1500 and $3000.
ErinKate
Are you kidding me???!!!!! The day I spend $3K on a dog better be the day that joker starts doing the dishes! That is the craziest thing I ever heard! And these aren't proven dogs right? Holy crap!
sixx
The prices are crazy high! I came across her when I was originally looking for a bc, because I live in washington. It made me think "is a border collie really that expensive!?" Any bc we ever owned was a rescue... so I had no clue about breeder prices and her prices had me a little worried. Journey
The day I spend $3K on a dog better be the day that joker starts doing the dishes! The dishes, more like contributing to the mortgage payment! All that and you still don't "own" the dog either.
capnree
I usually lurk, but I thought I'd add. Hob Nob herding video for anyone curious (that is the breeder in the video, she gives clinics, too, or used to):
juliepoudrier
Oh my. I just wanted to reach through the computer screen and snatch that rope out of her hand and let the dogs actually go around the stock and work them. What is she trying to teach those dogs? That you're never allowed to gather stock? Not once did she let Fusion actually cover the stock properly (when she actually let go of the rope for a short time). I'd sure like to see a video of the end result of that training.... It was all I could do to sit through that. Gah! J.
capnree
Not really sure what she was trying to teach (I'm just starting, so I have no idea what she would even be attempting to do, I just knew it looked frustrating) -she has a blog, here is the specific post. http://hobnob7.livejournal.com/1172.html
Maralynn
So she spent 30 minutes out there with her dog chasing sheep around before she saw a glimmer of stockdog showng through? That sounds like a dog being bred for drive, drive, drive with little reguard to stock sense and bidability.

Smokjbc
I've been wanting to ask about the Hob Nob dogs. When looking through stats for the 2008 National Agility winners, I noticed several dogs came from Hob Nob. Either they are doing a lot of breeding, or they are producing awesome dogs. Or, they are using their "name" and exclusive selection process to pick buyers most likely to pursue higher levels of competition. That video was painful to watch btw...
