A Song! "The Border Collie Blues"

Recommended Posts

Found recently by my DH on his autoharp player's list... I'd love to hear the tune!

"Border Collie Blues"

by Catherine Britell

Copyright 2007, Larkpoint Music

Well, I woke up this morning, everything hurt

Coffee pot was dirty, didn't have a clean shirt.

Flea bites all over, shouldna slept with that dog,

World is cold and damp, shrouded in fog

But I got my collie buddy sittin' here next to me,

And we're gonna have some fun, just wait, just wait and see.

Got the border collie blues (X2)

The border collie, jolly jolly border collie blues.

(Again)

But I'm happy, happy, happy, 'cause I got my collie buddy right heeeere.

Well, we've got a tennis ball, it's really quite old

Squishy, and slimy, smells a lot like mold

But I take it along, pull it out of my pocket,

he sez, "Chukit, mama, chukit, mama, chukit, chukit, chukit!"

Now my arm's in a sling, rotator cuff

'cause that black and white dynamo, he never gets enough.

(chorus)

Well, we're both gettin' on, he's 13 years old,

Our joints get creaky when the weather gets cold,

Yesterday he chased his ball right into the river,

But he couldn't get out and was a-startin' to shiver,

So I jumped right in, and gave that puppy a lift,

'Cause I didn't want to see my furry baby adrift.

Got the border collie blues (X2)

The border collie, jolly jolly border collie blues.

(Again)

But I'm happy, happy, happy, 'cause I got my collie buddy right heeeere.

And you know you woulda jumped in if it was your old dog!

Actually it was my old dog (not a border collie) who jumped in to "save" me. That's how

she learned to swim: never would go in the water until the day I swam out and went

underwater for a while. Afterwards she loved swimming, and would happily paddle

alongside me.

Niki doesn't swim, either. If it's shallow enough, she'll wade out and lie down in the water,

but she doesn't like it above midline of her body.

Ok, now I am finally convinced. We are all nuts.

It has taken you this long to figure that out?!?

Sidebar: Heidi, you and my DW are related. There are variations to the spelling of the last name (-an, -en, -in), resulting from different phonetic spellings by processors at Ellis Island. But all are part of the Douglas Clan; if you are ever in Scotland, you may want to visit the settlement of Draffan, located between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
