D'Elle
My terrier, a 22 pound mix and my main Canine Freestyle dog these days, got injured 10 days ago doing a very low jump through my arms. Somehow he landed wrong. Saw the specialist today and am informed that he has a torn meniscus and torn ACL. Without surgery he will never be normal again, with surgery he will probably be back to normal in six months, so really there is no option here. Surgery = $4,000.00 and although it is routine to the surgeon, it is scary to me. (I would rather the injury and surgery were happening to me, then I wouldn't be scared!) He goes in for the surgery tomorrow, the 26th. If any of you would send good mojo and thoughts his way tomorrow and for a while afterward, it sure would be appreciated. Thanks

Sue R
Tell him we are wishing him well, especially Celt, who had a TPLO on both hind legs, two years apart, and has done wonderfully, still very active and 15 years old in less than two weeks. He sends Digger a high four for good luck!

D'Elle
Thanks so much for all the good mojo....much appreciated! The doc called and said that surgery was uneventful and successful and he is waking up. Of course I won't be entirely relaxed until he is home again, and I am trying to brace myself for seeing him all shaved and sutured, (and bracing myself also for the bill!)....but it is good news so far. :-)

D'Elle
Diggs is home and all seems to be OK. Thanks so much for all the good mojo. He slept most of yesterday, but today is in pain, despite the pain killers. I wish there were more I could do for him. It would be so much easier for me if I were the one in pain, you know how that is? Not to mention the utter indignity of being crate bound and in the Cone Of Shame. Right now, he would probably say he'd rather just be lame. But in a few months this will all be over. Thanks again for the support, especially since Digger is not in any way or form even close to being a border collie.:-)
GentleLake
Dunno how long he'll need to wear the cone, but a much preferable option is one of those inflatable donuts. They allow the dog a much better range of motion and don't cause them to bump into things. They're available at most pot stores, and of course, online. Glad he's home. And the pain will subside. The first few days are the worst, but it will get better.
gcv-border
I have used an inflatable collar, and my dog definitely preferred it over the hard plastic cone-type collar. He had had shoulder surgery, and the inflatable collar prevented him from worrying the incision site, but it would have been useless for protecting his back end. It was not big enough to prevent the dog from twisting around. I had a little 6 month old foster that cam back from his neuter surgery with a cone-type collar, but it was made from fabric, and was padded. I really liked it. Hooper2
...They're available at most pot stores.... And since you'll be at the pot store shopping for something to help you through the recovery period anyway.....
GentleLake
LOL Typos can often be hilarious! This one's a doozy. Hope it gave y'all a chuckle.
D'Elle
LOL that typo did make me chuckle. If I lived in Colorado I would probably do that, too! I did look into the donut-style. But it, as GVC said, would not prevent his getting to his rear leg. I wish it would. I do have a stiff wide plastic collar with padding on the inside which I put on him for about half the time, and the cone the other half. Neither is comfortable for him. I will look into the fabric cone. I let him eat and have his ice-pak time, and other times that I am concentrating on being with him, without anything on. I have put a mattress on the living room floor so that he and I can sleep together and he won't be left alone in the crate all night. Cannot risk having him up on the bed. Right now as I do email and other internet things, he is beside me on the couch napping.
LauraV
When my golden, Zoey, had her mass removal surgeries, she wasn't allowed on the bed. We also had to sleep on the floor with her. God forbid she doesn't get to sleep with the pack...
