Stella is an Aussie???

Neat video.

The lady showing whistle commands mentioned that the whistle is used to avoid showing the dog any emotion from the handler.

I always assumed that the whistle is used rather than voice commands because the sound carries farther.

Interesting.

I find there are lots of reasons to use a whistle but yes keeping emotions or trying to keep them out of whistling is a good thing. You can't be yelling at your dog with a whistle in your mouth. But I have been known to screech a bit with it when I'm upset!

Mick much prefers I whislte, I can't really talk back and he can only do what I've whistled so no confusion.

OMG, how did you find that Julie LOL I saw that yesterday ;-) I can't tell you how many people came up to me wanting to know what she was...was she an Aussie mix, catahoula, she wasn't a Border Collie....too funny. Oh well...

That was my friend Keith with the Kelpie, he and his wife both run Kelpies. Very nice folks, and have pretty nice dogs too ;-) The tri dog, (with the lady being interviewed) was Stella's brother Brock, he went really well at the trial.

The 'whistle lady' ;-) was Francis Raley. And yep, she's exactly right on both reasons for using a whistle.

Much to my dismay I found it pretty easy to yell at my dog through my whistle

Yes but you have to admit it's easier to yell without anything in your mouth.

The tone of my whistle can be interpeted as a yell...like a serious lie down whistle but there are no other words flying out my mouth to confuse the real issue!!

No, she is a cross betwee a spotted hyena and an African wild dog. I thought everyone knew that.

No, no - clearly those markings are due to heavy influence of snow leopard!

Actually a man who met Allie the other day said she must be a border collie "you can tell because of the spots".
