Keegan's Mom
OK, so I plan on attending two upcoming sheepdog trials. Can anyone educate me on the language used...especially the classes they run in? What should I expect from each class? Thanks.
Shoofly
Which trials are you going to?
Pipedream Farm
Robin are you going to Border Springs? If so we'll see you there. Mark
Keegan's Mom
I plan to attend a day in Gaffney, SC on October 30th. I also plan on attending the trial at Rural Hill, NC as I live about 15 minutes away. I went last year but really didn't know what I was looking at. I've since taken a clinic. I would love to get Keegan on sheep more but our financial position doesn't allow it...but once my husband gets out of school I want to do more with him and sheep. juliepoudrier
Hi Rachel, I'll be in Gaffney, and probably other folks from these boards as well. If not there, then you will certainly meet many of the board triallers at Rural Hill. J.
Shoofly
I'll be at both of those trials. I think the SC trial is Open only, on cows and sheep. Rural Hill will run all classes. I think someone recently posted a nice writeup of what the different classes are - Julie, was it you? Maybe you could search for it or someone can copy it here. Rural Hill is more of a "public" trial, with the Scottish festival going on and spectators expected. It's been a few years since i've been there, but i'd guess they'll have some sort of program detailing the festival and trial course and scottish society and such. It'll probably be more spectator friendly. Gaffney is a very nice trial. Last year was their first year and they did a terrific job of catering to the handlers - good courses, good judge, great food, good payback, etc, etc., all the details that make a trial really good for the competitors. They may be doing more publicity and expecting more spectators this year, I don't know. Mark - yep, i'll be at Border Springs too. I'm a real glutton for this stuff, ya know? Rave
Hey Rachel! I might be going to Rural Hill, don't know yet. I have a football game to go to that Saturday, so might just come up for Friday if I do go. I'm sure Becca's probably going too. Anyway, here's a glossary of terms you may find useful: http://www.duke.edu/~awho/herding/glossary.htm And the Rural Hill page has some info as well: http://www.ruralhillfarm.org/servlet/Main?page=RHSDT -Laura
Keegan's Mom
Laura, Thanks. I will look those over. I plan on being at Rural Hill on Saturday and maybe Sunday. Friday I will be out of town. Maybe I will see you there if your plans change but I will be sure to look for Becca.
Rave
No way I'm missing my alma mater VT finally playing a local game (vs. UNC)!! - RTP HOKIE
Keegan's Mom
Ah, I guess I don't blame you. If my alma mater would get their football team back on track then I might pay to see some games!!!!
Shoofly
Don't tell me you're a Dookie (Duke). They ought to pay US to go to the games.....
Carson Crazies
Good Stuff! I'm planning to come watch the ones at Rural Hill and Farmington. Hope to see you guys there!!
Keegan's Mom
Nope, I'm a Pirate (East Carolina)...I think even Duke beat us last year. Give us another year or two with our new coach and maybe we will win some games. I consider this year an improvement...we are at least scoring points, but still losing!!!! Keegan's Mom
Also, Laura...we should meet up at Rural Hill if you will be there. I would love to meet more border collie people!!!!
Rave
Robin's a Dookie??? heh heh heh I'll apologize in advance for what my team (Virginia Tech) is going to do to Duke this weekend in Blacksburg. At least the ACC was nice enough to provide us a Welcome to the ACC [Duke-blue] Doormat for our first real ACC game.
Shoofly
Quasi-Dookie. I work here but can't claim to have graduated here. (That team - U of Louisville, at least doesn't stink quite so bad!). Sometimes i feel more like a Virginian anyway, as much time as i spend there! Just make sure they scrape the poor football team back up and send them all home. Oh yeah, and don't forget basketball season....
Rave
We'll let Ivan wash them on down Tobacco Road. anyway (changing the subject away from b'ball) ... there was a SDT at Va. Tech years ago when I was there. Is this trial still held? Would love an excuse to go back besides football.
Shoofly
I never went to it but i think that was Karen Thomason and Bernie Feldman (who sadly died in an accident last year) who had that trial.
