B Point
Ok...well now that Tio has kinda stabilized into a 80~90% recovered holding pattern I'm going to start exploring what I can do to improve on those numbers. It's hard to say if this is going to be a degenerative disease or not but I'm going to think of it as a one time infection that did some nerve damage. Now I need to try any and all treatments to work on getting his back end......"back". So kind folks...hit me with what you've got, heard of, or tried......anecdotal or otherwise... Thanks in advance, Chris
Blackdawgs
I would try to find a rehab vet who can assist with conditioning and strengthening exercises. If there is no such vet near you, a DVD called Conditioning and Strengthening the Canine Athlete (buty from Clean Run) is a good place to start. B Point
Thank you Blackdawgs.. My wife has been asking around for any kind of rehab vets in the area but as with most things in Japan.... all roads lead to Tokyo which is 3 hours away. I will take a look for that dvd. Thanks again.
diane allen
They do NOT discuss supplements on this group, but there is a Facebook group called Canine Conditioning and Body Awareness. Frankly, I find most of the posts either irrelevant to me, or just downright ______. (Fill in the blank - silly, dangerous, bragging, etc.). BUT there are some Files that are useful. One is called Professionals that Do Distance Consults. The only vet I know on that list personally is Dr. Leslie Eide, in Colorado. I would highly recommend her! She may ask for videos or photos, but can do lots of good consult work by email. That might be easier for you! Good luck with Tio. diane
B Point
Ah.....that topic is a no-no...I see. Thank you for that info Diane. That's an interesting option.
Blackdawgs
The DVD that I recommended was made by DVMs. The exercises are safe and low tech.

Good luck with Tio. diane Diane I am glad that you recommend her, I have just started working with her by email, and so far I have been very pleased, I contacted about 6 different rehab pros in the US and UK, 2 did not bother to the respond, and the others all had possibilities, if you are interested B Point send me a message and I can provide you the contact info.I have gone the distance route because the local vet/physio who diagnosed Rievaulxs hip dysplasia did not provide a clear exercise program and I felt I was over doing things, which being a typical border collie and owner we were. He also had no background in sports medicine for dogs, his client base is regular pets recovering from surgery. So we are going to work with Leslie to provide the program, through email and videos and Jose locally for the hands on evaluation.
diane allen
B Point: Sorry, my post was unclear! When I said they don't discuss supplements, I meant the FB group, not this border collie boards site! Alligande - glad you are doing well with Leslie! I also just attended a workshop with Bobbie Lyons through a local (not my town) kennel club. I audited the morning, which was good - most folks attending had not done much as far as conditioning, etc. I had an hour "private lesson" with her and got lots of great ideas to do with my dysplastic dog, who is 9. If you get a chance, I would highly recommend her too! diane
alligande
Thanks Diane, Bobby was one of those who got back to me and was also surprisingly reasonable. I decided to go with Leslie as she is a vet and I wanted to be sure that I was doing no harm, I also thought my team here in Mallorca would be more comfortable working with another medical professional, but once we get back to competing I am tempted to sign up with Bobby. B Point
Thank you for the info and Alligande I will contact you in a week or so. Right now we are talking with our vet neuro specialist here in Tokyo....actually Saitama which is even further away. He should be getting back to us in a few days with his thoughts. He's a pretty busy guy. Unless he can suggest someone closer I will probably explore the online options.
