ABCA registered 3 year old in rescue

Recommended Posts

I do not have this dog, but thought someone might be looking and interested. They do have his ABCA registration papers showing the lines he is from.

Some additional infor from his foster.

Torque is a high drive border collie from working lines and he ended up in a home that loved him but was looking for a pet. They realized he needed more than they were able to give him at that stage in their lives. He was definitely well loved and they did the best they could have with him.

I have always wondered if folks involved in rescue try to put some training on dogs like this and place them in a working home? Seems to me no better life for a bc who enjoys working than to be trained and partner with someone who will enjoy their assistance.

Some do.

But I don't think most have the resources to do much in this area and when they do it can be pretty spotty. For instance, the rescue I volunteer with has one or 2 foster homes that have livestock but have limited experience with training a working dog, and most don't have any accessibility to livestock at all to assess, much less train. So at best they can assess whether a dog has interest, but not real talent.

In an ideal world rescues would be able to do more in this area, but most are just trying to keep up with the influx of dogs and get them adopted.

Fortunately there are more people able to assess for sports potential and start some training for it.

I contacted the foster as Liz P suggested. Here is her answer and she has included the ABCA Registration number.

Hi

We did contact the breeder and they do not want him as they think he will be a disruption in their house. I got the impression that they aren't breeders, just people who happened to breed a border collie litter. The previous owners were told that he would be an easy dog as he was smart. They had no idea what they were getting, which also says something about the breeders in question.

His registration number is 396835.

He sounds wonderful and if I were currently in the market I would not hesitate to go get him. He sounds, in fact, a lot like Jester when Jes was a youngster.

What crappy people who bred him. But, think of it this way: he is better off getting a home through the rescue than going back to those jerks.
