Tassie
How long is a piece of string? IMHO it varies according to the puppy, circumstances, whether the pup is having a growing spurt etc.etc. You'd expect a little pup to sleep for a few hours a few times a day, as well as pretty well all night - and it's important to let that happen. As the pup gets older, he or she stays awake longer, but will 'crash' after things like a big play or socialisation session. As they mature, they will develop different patterns according to what's going on in their household. My guys (20 months and 18 months) are sound asleep right now (3.00 pm here) and have been for about 3 hours. Before that they were 'helping' me in the garden, until they decided it was nap time there. But if I decided to go out into the cold wind and rain outside, they would happily come with me - well, they might be happy. Be guided by your puppy - if waking behavior is puppy-normal, then sleep behavior is probably right for that puppy - where possible, try not to wake the pup unless you need to. BTW congratulations on the way your pup has taken to her crate.
Northof49
In my years of experience, Border Collies puppies NEVER SLEEP - AGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! They only zone out for about 30 secs and then are back at full steam for the next zillion hours.
