2011 Natl. Sheepdog Finals DVDs

Got mine a couple of days ago, and at the same time I got the complete series of All Creatures Great and Small. It's been a very long time since I've seen any of the All Creatures episodes, so I was torn about which to watch first. I compromised by watching the Double Lift Finals discs, and they were great. Next I'll watch a bit of All Creatures.

Apart from the runs, I really enjoyed Alasdair MacRae's commentaries. He was so animated - you'd almost think that each dog running was his own dog. I learned a lot by listening to him and Suzy Applegate.

A couple of the sheds just about gave me heart failure... And I actually wept at the white-faced dog - I can't remember his name - so torn between taking his "look back" command and staying with his first bunch.

It also gave me a very clear picture of what is meant by "heavy" sheep. They were so very different from the sheep at the finals the year before. Lead-weighted sheep. Heads dropping to graze and refusing to budge! It was like gravity was 50% stronger on those sheep that the rest of the world. And uppity! Stamping and dashing at the dogs. I wanted to bite them myself! Amazed at the control shown by all the dogs. I would have expected a lot of gripping on such contrary beasts.

Anyway. Wonderful DVDs. When I've had a nice fix of Herriot & Co. I'll watch the semi-finals. Well done, 5:00 Films and Media.

I remember being nearby and overhearing the commentators, and I marveled at what a wonderful commentator Alasdair is! Even though I was there, I bought the dvd's because I am so looking forward to listening to ALL the commentary.

Absolutely! I found myself wishing that he would be the main commentator for the whole competition. It was nice that the regular commentator had the sense to be quiet and let him talk as well. I learned a great deal about dogs, handlers and sheep from his interpretation of the runs. I thought Suzy Applegate made a good partner-in-commentary for him too.

I can't wait to watch mine but I will have to as I am elbow-deep in a project right now...I've heard so many compliments on this! Please don't forget to let the production company know how pleased you are with their work, too!

If it's any consolation Robin, I got a check from a client *2 weeks* after it was postmarked. This is not the first problem I've had with the postal service, so it's entirely possible that your DVD was mailed on time and is stuck in the system somewhere. Seriously, that check was mailed on Dec., 14th and I got it on the 27th....
