New Puppy Questions :)

Recommended Posts

My first question would be: In what context?

Second, the best way to know your dog is to observe him or her as closely as possible as much of the time as possible.

When I have a new dog of any age in my house that's what I do a great deal of the time. I am watching the dog and his or her interactions closely. It is fascinating, and teaches you a lot. If you do this you will learn that particular dog's body language and vocal language and you will always know.

All dogs are different. But in general, my observation has been that a fearful dog, if he makes noise at all, will either whimper or will snarl/growl/bark, while a frustrated dog most often does a much higher-pitched bark or whine or yelping sound. But this is a generality. Learn your own dog.
