The World's Smartest Dog"

I finally found some time to watch the video. I loved it. I hope I can get my DH to watch it too.

I thought the reporter's reactions when he was calling out "Find Inky or Find (toy name) were priceless. He got more and more excited as Chaser brought back the correct toy.

I just wish that they had shown the footage of Chaser picking out the Darwin toy from behind the couch. We know that they had a camera back there.

The wife brought home 'Chaser - Unlocking the Genius of the Dog Who Knows a Thousand Words' from the library the other day. I'm enjoying it. It's written as a memoir, and so far provides only general insight into how Dr. Pilley raised and trained his pup. Much of the story is about Pilley's own learning and evolution. It is a very easy read, and quite enjoyable.

I'm about half way through now (I can't put it down), and really enjoying the book. One thing that comes through is to allow 'natural learning' to occur and take its course. As an educator, I know this to be true with the best of (human) education. I think working dog owners/handlers know it. We guide the process for best results, but natural learning in a capable animal goes much further than conditioning (like almost all 'classic' training) can alone.
