Soft Crate

Recommended Posts

I just bought a soft crate from Amazon. I don't have a car, and don't drive, so my dogs are very infrequently in a car. I wanted a crate with good air-flow and visibility.

The reviews I read were good, and the price was good also, then I noticed that the parent company was selling a "refurbished" (from the manufacturer) crate for less, so I got that. It's 42" long, x 28" wide x 32" high. Maid is a big girl with long legs - I call her Brienne of Tarth, (for those of you who would get a Game of Thrones reference) It was $84.99 for a new one and $72.89 for the refurbished one. Free shipping, too.

I thought it was a good deal, and I will be needing to return my borrowed crate soon. Thought someone else might be interested in the product.

Two of my dogs busted out of these things. One dog destroyed it and the other exited thru a small gap because mom did not completely zip it.

In my experience (outdoor agility trials in the deep south), the air flow in these things is not as good as one would think. I think that the air flow is much better in the metal crates with the big gaps between bars

We've discussed before in another thread the importance of making sure you test and/or train your dogs in the soft crates before using them somewhere you'd need them to be contained.

What happened to you wasn't the fault of the crate. They're not designed for escape artists. In one case the dog should never have been left in a soft crate and in the other it was user error, comparable to someone not completely latching a wire or plastic crate.

I expect to go through a period of adjustment with the soft crate. Maid is very tractable in the crate she's using now - a Varikennel, unless... If I take Sugarfoot our without her she throws a tantrum, digs up her crate mat and tears at it.

First I will have to extinguish this behavior, and then make sure it carries over to the destructible crate.

That is... If I can get the cat out of it for five minutes. He loves the fleece bed I put in it. :D
