theshine Posted January 26, 2008 Report Share Posted January 26, 2008 Don't feel bad. I love merles, I have two, one Sheltie and one BC. My sheltie came from a reputable breeder. I did go specifically looking for a merle, and it took me forever to find him (incidentally I did not pay more for him than my tri) and my bc is a rescue, and it was his beautiful color that drew me to him in the first place. I made the final decision on both based on temperament though. I certainly don't agree with breeding just for color or double merle breeding, but there is nothing wrong, as a companion dog owner, with having a color preference as long as it doesn't rule your decision on which dog to get.
