Black Watch Debatable
Jazz, sister to my Piper, died peacefully at the vet's on Thursday in the arms of the person who loved her most. Jazz was euthanized following acute kidney failure. She was almost 13 years old, and belonged to one of my best friends. Jazz was bred to work --- she was a granddaughter of the Butcher's Mac, and both her parents were Open dogs --- but other pursuits interested her more than stock. Tennis balls were her life-long obsession. She was perfectly obedient [though she lacked any formal training]; up for any neighborhood stroll, hike or car trip; always civil with other dogs; and terrific with people of all ages. She had legions of friends and admirers, from Paso Robles to Phoenix, AZ. The last time I saw her, the night before she died, she touched my knee with her paw when I sat next to her on the sofa --- she was asking to be petted, and if she'd had the strength, I'm sure she would have found a tennis ball and brought it to be thrown. Jazz was my friend's first dog-of-her-own, her only dog, and the sort of wise, wonderful, loyal and intuitive companion that only a well-loved, well-cared-for border collie can be. When I talked to my friend on Friday, she said, "I never thought of myself as living alone. I don't want to take her blanket off the couch… I keep thinking I hear her tags rattling… I can't empty her water dish…! This must sound crazy..." Nope. Safe journey, Jazz --- you were dearly loved. G. Festerling
I am sorry about yours and your friends loss. Jazz had definetly hit the jackpot and I am sure there are and still will be tags rattling for a while!
