Newsletter: Members receive the quarterly USBCC Newsletter, which includes articles on herding, obedience, health, and other areas of interest to Border Collie owners. We appreciate any contributions from members, such as articles, reviews of books or videos, important competition results (we can't cover them all), and information from organizations such as OFA, Border Collie registries, and the United States Border Collie Handlers' Association. Classified ads include dog-related items, litters or older dogs, and sheep-related novelties. Members may advertise pups or older dogs at reduced rates. Ads to place "rescued" or no-cost older dogs are free of charge to members. Display ads offer information on other Border Collie publications, groups, breeders, trainers, etc. Material for use in the newsletter and information concerning the publication should be addressed to the editor: Kay Pine, 14401 Poplar Hill Rd, Germantown, MD 20874.
Herding Clinics: The USBCC sponsors or supports several stock dog training and handlers' training clinics in various places in the US. The purpose is to help stock dog owners learn to train their dogs for both farm work and trial competition. These events also offer an excellent opportunity for Border Collie owners active in other areas (such as obedience) to learn about the breed's vital roots and innate characteristics, helping them to better understand the breed and their own dogs.
Public Understanding: Promoting public understanding and acceptance of the Border Collie as a herding dog first and foremost is an important part of the USBCC's work. Advertisements in Dog World and Dog Fancy magazines generate hundreds of requests for our informational pamphlet which is designed to help potential owners decide if a Border Collie is right for them. Other educational materials are developed from time to time.
Member Alerts: The USBCC keeps members abreast of any known threats to the Border Collie breed, and efforts being made to combat them.
